Man's endless pursuit with meaning can be likened to Sisyphus endlessly pushing the boulder up a hill. Both deeds are ultimately meaningless but if by fooling oneself into thinking there's meaning, should we prevent them from doing so? While one might lament at the meaningless in Sisyphus's cyclical actions, imagine for a second that Sisyphus is freed by Hades of the endless chore and instead told to be 'free'. What then would Sisyphus do that would produce more 'meaning' in an eternity in hell? What would Sisyphus- the man who only knows of boulder pushing do now that he is free to do anything? In this sense, the tale of Sisyphus is the tale of Zagreus is the tale of every single person living on this planet. Just as Sisyphus rolls a boulder with no end in sight, serving no true purpose, the player endlessly grinds through Hades to reach the end only to repeat the cycle without a true purpose in sight. Whether the boulder falls halfway or at the end, it makes no difference. TL;DR Meaning is over-rated Altho. Now that I think about it, if Hell truly existed, would the best punishment not simply be to do nothing?
@somewhereelse1235 Жыл бұрын
Considering the human condition is vehemently opposed to boredom and will violently reject nothingness, you are correct, a punishment of nothing would be the worst punishment.
@matthewweinberg633 Жыл бұрын
But there are plenty of goals and purposes to achieve throughout Hades. When you’ve completed 10 runs, you can bring Persephone back and see the credits. Do a few more runs and you reunite the family and get the true ending. And even after that, many players play on in the hopes of seeing and completing everything the game has to offer, from filling out the Codex, to maximizing your bond with every character, to fulfilling all the Minor Prophesies and Pact of Punishment challenges. Sure, once you’ve done literally everything you can possibly do in the game, then any further gameplay becomes truly pointless. But that’s how it is with every game. Hades isn’t just meaningless repetition at all.
@ambrose7196 Жыл бұрын
But what happens once you're done?
@matthewweinberg633 Жыл бұрын
@@ambrose7196 I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Done with what? With the story? With completion? I specified both in my first comment. Do you mean to ask how you are rewarded in the real world? Because you’d be right that you don’t gain any material reward in the real world for completing a game. But for many people, it’s fun, and satisfying, and sometimes personal fun and satisfaction is the only reward you need.

Despite him sounding like such a chill calm guy in this game adaption. He was actually a total psycho in real sources. For starters he constantly would seduce his niece girlfriend wife thing. And manipulate her. He would also throw citizens of his city off cliffs to show a sign of power. Like literally he would literally through crowds of people one by one off a tower to show he means business. He’s definitely one of the worst rulers in history.

@michaelbk007610 ай бұрын
It actually depends oh the version of the myth you find. The most popular one is the version where he's basically a complete lunatic, but there is another where he was actually a pretty good king. In that one, the reason Thanatos is sent to kill him is because Zeus was (as always) looking to get some ancient greek cheeks, and his choice this time was the daughter of a river god. Said god asked Sisyphus where Zeus had taken his daughter, and he agreed to tell him in exchange for a freshwater spring in his city. Of course, Zeus was pissed that Sisyphus had told the river god this, and sent Thanatos after him

But in this games context Sisyphus has changed. He has been doing this for so long he has reevaluated his life over and over and has had a change of character.
