Thanks Joe! Just a quick note for anyone doing the same job, don't order a new actuator until you've gotten behind the door panel & inspected it. In my case it was only the cable holder had popped out of its holder and not the actuator. Re-instated it, put it all back together and tested many times, easy fix :)

I know this video is old now but I watched it yesterday and replaced my actuator this morning...without any help from others. Just wanted to say it can be done if no help is available...you just need to be careful (or not stupid :-) with the window glass. Thanks for the video

For you and other viewers I'm sharing my personal experience with this job. On my first attempt to replace the right front door lock assembly I was unable to separate the window from the window regulator assembly because a door glass release lever P/N 501-114 is required per the Land Rover shop manual for 2008 and 2009 year models. The 2010-2-12 models have a different attachment clip. Ordered the tool from Freedom Racing and will attempt in two weeks.
@joewoodford94284 жыл бұрын
@Scott Morningstar, I used a small screw driver to separate the little plastic clips which locks the regulator to the window. It tricky but will patients it can be done. It a good idea to have a mag-mountable LED light in the door area to give you good light to do this. If JLR has a part that would help but for the DIYer out there, with a little care it can be done. Thanks for the advice 👍. Tell us how you got on !! Cheers Joe (and think to Like and Sub if not done so)

I’ve had to do this twice to my Freelander. Highly, HIGHLY recommend taking the door handle off so you can pull the whole lock assembly out and connect the cables to the new one on the bench. Will save you hours and is not as fiddley. There is another vid on KZbin which shows this. Otherwise your video is great, thanks!
@joewoodford94283 жыл бұрын
Hi Gareth, this an old video and there was no/little info out there when I had to fix the lock. I filmed this having never tried this repair before, so you see all my mistakes!! I would imagine by now KZbin has much better How To's. Your tips sound spot on BTW , hopefully any who finds this vid reads the various recommendations!! Keep team coming to help others :) That said if this helped in any way please LIKE and sub , Cheers Joe

How do you manage with the door unable to open
@HaggisMuncher-69-420 Жыл бұрын
I have a completely different issue. My drivers side door will not unlock by pulling the handle as you did in the beginning of this vid, for me to unlock it, I have to press the unlock button on the dash. Weirdly it does work sometimes but there's no rhyme or reason to it.
@joewoodford9428 Жыл бұрын
Should be the same as the key fob as the motors drive the open and lock ? Sounds odd for sure. Did you change the lock as shown and has that fixed the issue?

Just successfully done this repair to my Freelander 2 this morning and am extremely impressed! Went very easily except for the second cable attached to the lock mechanism which I presume is for the outer door latch. I found this very difficult to release due to the limited space available. One tip I’d like to share is to ensure that you orientate your car so that you’re not looking directly into the sun! Many thanks for sharing this repair 👍.

I'm glad it helped you out, depending on the door it can be quite tricky, hence why I broke the cable lock when I was trying to remove the cable.
@marksmithayr4 жыл бұрын
You could try releasing the actual Door Handle mechanism, which will allow for the Lock & adjoining cables, plus the internal Door Handle mechanicals to come out as one assembly. You will then have full access to the difficult handle cables. Door Handle removal is fairly easy...

Thanks for the vid just did the job when removing the window the yellow clip does nothing, remove the speaker, remove the window buttons from door panel and reconnect, look through speaker hole lower window till you see the white clip, tape window in place,pull on white clip out side part lower window and it will pop right off , just spent 2 hours trying to get to yellow/ orange clipthrough a 3cm hole 🙄 be careful of you hands

I have had the locking fault rectified, now after a few months the actual door handle doesn't open the door, seems like it's not pulling anything... Any suggestions?
@joewoodford94288 ай бұрын
unfortunately I don’t have the Freelander 2 anymore. My best guess would be the cable (which looks like a bicycle break cable) may have come off the lock mechanism or failed. Something like this www.lrparts.net/lr019819-internal-door-release-cable-for-freelander-2-from-inner-handle-to-latch-genuine-land-rover.html.

On my lr2. I have to pull the handle twice to unlock the door. Is that the full unit that needs to be replaced or just a canceling issue. The door unlocks when selecting the lock / unlock button.
@joewoodford94286 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the Dead-Lock is on if you need to pull it twice inside the car as the first time releases the dead-lock and the second opens the car.
@krisjacek6 жыл бұрын
Joe Woodford Hi joe. Thank you for responding. The door in question is the driver front door. I’m not familiar with the term dead-lock. But I understand what you are referring to. Do you know if this is a setting that can be changed? It only is happening on this one door.
@joewoodford94286 жыл бұрын
The LR2 is my wife's car so I will need to try it out, it does sound like one of the two motors in the door lock unit is not working correctly. My guess without trying is the unlock button in the car is not driving the motor to actually unlock the drivers door, a dead lock is when you double lock the car with the key, press it once the car locks, press it again and it deadlocks the whole car.

Thanks all.

HI John, I'm very sorry to say I no longer have the Freeland 2. Have you tried to experiment with the door that does unlock to see if you can get the door card off that while open and then try the same door but it closed to see you could manage it in situ? You might need to removed the rear seats to give you more access to the lower part of the rear of the door card. I talking from memory here so this might not help at all. Hopefully others might have some bright ideas!
