Why the reform is all abt the attracting high quality investment? When will Malaysia start to talk abt producing high value added exports? You cant expect ringgit to permanently strenthen without producing high value added exports that not only higher in demand by a lot of countries but also by the domestic users in order to keep the ringgit strong. You wanna strong currency make sure pursue on competing for high quality export. This is where technological products export play role. Malaysia has potential in pharmaceutical. Create our own medicines, vaccines, high qualitt healthcare product using our agriculture resources

When i was in primary school back in early 90's,SGD 1=MYR 1.50 Things dropped after 1997 crash,i was secondary 2 or 14 yr olds, It was intended to be this way for the ones in control for benefits of both country,invite foreign investors a.k.a SG companies in MY,they profit more from currency exchange values because labour wage cheap in MY and have safe environment,plus imports from Indonesia and store/production in MY,good business 👌 (Btw i am born MY but received education in SG since kindergarten until secondary school,my mum is MY my father is SG and both my siblings are SG citizens)

The ringgit is just normalizing to where it was bcos US Fed cut interest rate by 0.5%.. It is the devaluation of USD.. The more the Fed cut rates, the lower USD value as investors are pulling out money from USD and place it else where.

To all the detractors, check your facts before saying the Ringgit strengthen only because of the US interest cuts. Malaysian currency has been the strongest performing currency in Asia(even beating Singapore$)for the past 6 months, and has one of the lowest inflation rate in the world at 2%.

During the Asian Financial Crisis, ringgit was pegged to 3.8 ringgit to the US dollar. It was considered a great devaluation from the previous 2.5 to US dollar. Now it is 4.2 to the USD, I wouldn’t consider it as a comeback yet. Maybe some sort of a recovery.

This story is as good as saying the mothers are females. The real reasons for the ringgit instability are local politics, manipulation and the steady loss of the hegemony of the dollar. International trade are cutting down on the use of dollars and the increase use of the dollars outside the SWIFT system that prevented the master manipulator (US) to track and monitor the dollars. Not only the ringgit, all other currencies of the global south are recovering.

Just a question. If the Fed cuts interest rates to 2% or lower and MY is still maintaining it's interest at 3%, the currency may get stronger but wouldn't the central bank be losing money?

Malaysia have diverse generation of economy that strengthen its core..though lower ringgit better for export,it is not so good for import.. However better economy will concurrently reflect in the value of ringgit..and there are still many things to do: 1) reduce too much reliance on foreign workers (huge money outflow from the country and consequently reduced investment in technology) 2) crackdown and limitation on foreigners small businesses - alibaba or not - (money outflow from the country that didnt in anyway benefit local economy..instead destroy local economy by increasing competition, not paying any tax and use subsidize goods) 3) build more low cost homes (though it doesnt sit well with developer,more spending cash means more domestic consumption that generate local economy..it seems simple but it is as direct as that) 4) reform on subsidies (still ongoing but need to stop leakage of our country resources to foreigners and corrupt businesses) 5) crackdown and reform on corrupt government servant (they are directly contributing to the damage of economy i.e. foreigners,subsidies,taxes by either closing eyes,accept bribe or take part in it..enough said) 6) reduce imports by produce more locally (foods like rice should be cultivate more for future food security..and energy should focus more in renewable energy rather than imports) 7) creating new economy generation

Ringgit currently is 'undervalued' at the rate of 1 Ringgit (plus minus RM1)...peers to peers, Ringgit value should match the value of Thai Baht, as it was 10 to 15 years ago before the great crash of Ringgit in 2015....the current USD/Baht value is THB3.30 per 1 USD (33 in Baht denomination)... hence the actual value of Ringgit should also be around RM3.30, but the current rate is RM4.20 (undervalued of plus minus RM1 from the actual rate) 😢 the irony is, Thailand economy is so slow and almost stagnant in the last 10 years until now in 2024, but the Baht is strongest after SGD at this period..while Malaysia economy is doing fine and registered some growth for the last 10 years until now, somehow Ringgit hit the weakest level and crash badly.... something is 'not right' over here...

This rubbish. It is not the interest rates alone. Inerest remains a privatised charge on the economy. There is also no significant evidence of the workforce being upgraded (except in Sarawak) as the Education system remains unreformed and beholdened to racist policies. Also a significant portion of the workforce, likely the majority, remains trapped in very unproductive sinicures. But there is one very sensitive reason why the ringgit is now recovering. But I shall leave this very hot potato alone.
