Greetings brother. I send love and deep affection from Sidonia Lodge #93 Elyria, Oh USA. I completely understand your feelings I was told that masonry was my own journey. This journey has been a beautiful one but one thing I will add is that it t has been one that I have taken with few human companions. This journey has brought me closer to our creator and the books that masons have are not the only sources that I have used to become a better mason. Knowledgeable brothers are rare so take advantage when you find one and continue your journey. People like you are what makes the world a better place. As the Bible says keep seeking and you will find.

I’m a fairly young MM in England. I completely agree about the lack of philosophy and esotericism in meetings (that’s why I joined). Me and the younger brethren (one being my WM) feel the same as they already do their own studies. Now that I’m firmly embedded in the craft, I finally got time to study the ritual and symbolism. Now I’m enjoying so much more now that I’m doing my own study coupled with attending meetings/ceremonies. Me and the younger brethren will eventually found a lodge with more focus on philosophy, esotericism and education (while still sticking to the main tenets of FM). There’s actually a promising side order which isn’t so well known that’s more about education/philosophy/esotericism called the SRIA which I’ll look at. Blue lodges meanwhile need to take heed of why people leave (never mind a bums on seats campaign if they’re going to leave due to boredom and paying money for it). I myself love it, but these things need to be considered.

I can understand your position. I have come to the conclusion that Freemasonry is what one makes of it. My biggest surprise is that climate within Lodges vary considerably and can change dramatically from year to year based on the WM. For me, moving to another Lodge helped me to enjoy a fuller Lodge experience while furthering my own studies.

Greetings as a fellow square. I understand what you are talking about. Joining the organization and expecting to gain this fast amount of knowledge. Is exactly how I felt. But there are many books, lectures that will help. But I found that most of what I was looking for I already knew. Through my own personal studies before entering a lodge. I pray for you brother. I pray that you continue your journey. And continue to work your tools. So mote it be /G\

It's interesting, from some of the stuff I've watched from British Freemasons, it seems that recruiting happens fairly often there. Here in Texas, it took over a year of asking, reminding, prodding, etc. To get an application and, much more importantly, the men needed to back my petition. Maybe recruiting is just more common everywhere than I think, who knows. I've only reached my EA, but I hope to turn in my proficiency soon and move to Fellow Craft.

The first place you were "prepared" to be a Mason is in your heart but what makes you a Mason is your obligation. Therefore you cannot be a Freemason without being a member of a lodge. I understand you came to discover the deeper mysteries as well many around you in the fraternity not getting into it. I would like to call your attention to something if I may. I felt the same way until I went through the Royal Arch and when I went through the Scottish Rite I got confirmation that enlightenment and the secrets of the Universe are indeed here in Freemasonry. I started to meet those that had wonderful knowledge and then I started to teach it in my Lodge and the Masonic circles I travel in. The more I did this the more Freemasonry opened up to me. The truth is not what you think, it's not coming to Freemasonry to get something, it's what you give. And that is what life is truly about. Happiness comes from love coming out of you. Not the other way around. Now the Masonic circles I travel in are abundant in everything you said you were looking for but didn't find. It's not in knowledge (although infinite knowledge is here in Freemasonry) it's in the charitas, the helping my Lodge, my brothers, my fellow member of the human family. We do not see the world as it is, we see the world as we are! I believe you missed your opportunity. I made Freemasonry the way I wanted and it opened and revealed itself to me. A fraternity of men who believe in God and wish you to follow the faith your heart loves the best, to help each other create the best version of ourselves for our families, our communities, our counties and ourselves! How can that not be the most important privilege a man can have? Freemasonry has transformed this world and set the tone for democracy, religious tolerance, enlightenment, brotherly love under the fatherhood of God! And we give over $2 million dollars a day to charity. I wish we could have spoken before you left. To say you are a Freemason without a lodge is like claiming to be married without a wife. The most repeated word in all our ritual is... Love!

I am not a Freemason, yet, but I plan to. But from what I understand so far from already reading a lot on the subject, is that it seems the actual point of a symbolic and ceremonial mystery group is that there are mysteries that cannot be communicated in simple words and paragraphs, but require intense conscious attention to the experience and practice. If they are honest, it is not that anybody is restricting a hidden essay from you, which would confer the same understanding as the ritual and participation in the group. No, therein you are surrounded by ideas, spirits, signs and symbols which holistically affect your consciousness to the degree that you get involved and seek understanding. You probably should read more, and I’m sure you have by now, but the understanding intended is something more comprehensive, holistic, and embodied, and not something purely heady.

I am a Mason and a Past Master in the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the State of Georgia (USA) I would like to express my sadness at your experience in your Masonic journey. I have been a MM since 1999 and recieved my 3 degrees as well as served through the chairs in Pennsylvania. I have visited many lodges over the years in different States as well as Canada and England. I state all the above as a preface to the following statements. I am sure that at least one time in your Masonic experience you heard the words "you get out of Masonry WHT you put into it" these words hold a lot of truth. Like you I was interested in the esoteric side of the lodge and at first found the majority of the Brothers I met were content with the fellowship and charity aspects the lodge offered. But as a traveled more and questioned Brothers I met I found there are more than you are giving credit to that do seek the origins, mysteries and original purpose of the Fraternity. There are actually dedicated groups of Masons who meet, research and discuss these matters in hopes of keeps this knowledge alive. I do not know you or your motives but it seems that you expected to walk in and be handed these things without putting in any effort to learn them. I respectfully say to you that knowledge given without effort or price is useless as by working and seeking out makes the information have meaning and also gives some clarity to it. Again I do not know you and am only posting this based on what I saw and heard in you video.

If you never took an oath or went through your ritual you are definitely not a mason. You can be an upright man and live as a mason tries to live daily but you are not a member of the fraternal order and therefore not a mason.

Hey mate, I’ve not even become a mason, I’ve only attended a few Masonic charity events & lodge Committee meetings. I have already decided freemasonry isn’t for me, in the lodge that I’ve been invited into everyone is over the age of 55 & the calibre of individuals that I have met seem extremely low, for an organisation that markets itself on creating better men it seems odd to see so many of these men inter-bickering…. and tend to be in low level career paths struggling to get through life. Very odd but certainly not for me.
@ohfreemason7 ай бұрын
Certainly bickering and such shouldn't be happening, but where someone is in their career has nothing to do with whether or not they are worthy to become a Mason or not. In many cases, the types you are describing greatly benefit from networking with brothers and may be presented with better opportunities. It's not very polite to judge people by assuming they are "extremely low caliber" it's quite demeaning. If these are your thoughts then you are right, it is not for you.

I'm afraid I did experience some behavior which I believed unbecoming of a Freemason and which contributed to my decision to leave.

@@ohfreemason I don’t see how that’s demeaning if it’s factual, I’d say it’s more demeaning to ask for a membership fee (although it may contribute to charity) when large proportions of masons within the lodge need charity themselves.
@ohfreemason7 ай бұрын
@@southwest3369 You don't think it's demeaning to describe people, whom you do not know (only by briefly meeting them at an event) as extremely low caliber? That's the epitome of being demeaning toward someone. Unless you're not being forthcoming about what you described, and you've done more than attend public events and have personally got to know people and spent time with them, how would you conclude they are of extremely low caliber?

@@ohfreemason vulgar language with the inclusion of crude inappropriate jokes referring to sexual acts around women, some of the more elderly members made racist remarks once or twice at the committee meeting when one mason was describing his ex military career, the individuals that I met were almost half pissed they all seem to indulge in high volumes of Guinness beer after most business they conduct. Addressing your other point, it’s seems a bit strange to refer to an individual as the worshipful master & effectively be his servant until you rise through the degrees when that individual doesn’t live or abide by Masonic principles as measurable by the individuals life. My grandad was a MM, either one of two things have happened the fraternity has a serious internal problem or it’s desperate to attract new members due to low membership density thus lowering the bar in candidates they pursue.
