Dear Mufti, I really appreciate your lectures. I must say that it it is partly true what you say. Yes, we young unmarried women must get active otherwise noone knows we exist. Fair enough. But I am a very well known girl in my community. So many pwople know my dad and me but I am still unmarried at the age of 29. this means it is both! Sometimes even though you are known by sooo many people it just doesn't work. Inshallah Allah helps us all

Salam Sister, you might be experiencing some sort of 'bystander effect', people see you but don't take action due to various reasons. Watch the videos and read about it to understand more. And/or you might appear too good and beyond their league. Also, as a guy I will like to share my mother's inhibition in approach the girls families, she for some reason gets cold feet due to the perceived pressure involved and because we don't have a "large" enough home for all my siblings to stay at after getting married! For example, so she keeps mentioning about this particular Muslimah time to time from over past three years, but she gives various reasons why initiating ANY contact will have some repercussion! My God! It varies from what will society think if they say no, what will happen to my future family as her father is having micro managing issues(she fears he might cause issues later), that they have a problem with their male child in their home, etc.. She is yet to even hint that we are interested in her. Lol. Likewise for any other proposals which come in my direction, she deflects them as she we don't have that "large" home yet. Also, watch NAKs lecture on how the wife of Mus'a made her father initiate the talk on asking out Mus'a. Similarly learn from Mother of Believer's - Khadija(RA) that women too can initiate the proceedings. May Allah ease you and others in similar situation out of this.

mzs114 You are right. As a PhD in literature, I am beyond their league. But I have all qualities a woman can have for a proper marriage. Education, religion, proper upbringing, culture, outward appearance etc. However, they prefer women from my parents' country. Let them do whatever they want. Yes I once did ask my father indirectly about a man whom I was more or less i nfatuated with (no talking, no flirting etc.) he even did not know anything of me. When my dad made some hints, this man turned down my dad's offer. He declined. Either way, it simply doesn't work. But wlhamdulilah I have everything a person can have nowadays. Allah has blessed me. That has to do with qadr.

Linda Nehir, sister, watch the math of finding a match, there are many such videos/articles by non-muslims on finding a right match and how hard to impossible it is to find one, depending upon the guy/girl's preferences. Also, statistically we cannot say a method does not work unless we have enough samples to observe so. Perhaps you need to reach out to more people? I don't know as I am not there at your location and don't understand the dynamics of the marriage market over there, here in India we have enough pool of singles so finding a proper match is about reaching out to more people and evaluating, which is getting taxing, at-least from what I hear from my friends - both Muslims and non-Muslims. So do not give up and reach out! Now, following are my personal opinions and they could be polarizing: I don't consider a higher degree(in anything) as a girl's worth, even though I have a bachelors in engineering, I believe real education is not just in having a master/doctorate, some people might think otherwise, but many don't. If such formal education made for one's knowledge and wisdom then the pioneers of early innovators, educators and scientific thought did not have degrees, so this does not compute. :) I have declined a non-Muslim girl who is considered very gorgeous here, just cuz I felt she was high maintenance by her attitude and behavior. I liked some of her aspects including her beauty, but she came across as a arrogant person, thinking that the world is at her feet, unfortunately for her I realized just a bit earlier that outward beauty is not everything. (I know that I cannot marry a non-Muslim, but I was hoping she might revert before we marry, which did not happen whatever happens, happens for good!) Next, generally women "marry up" and men "marry down", perhaps you can make it change, that is if you consciously think and break through the usual societal norms and if the guy is worth that. Again I don't know what is the situation there and I am just sharing what _could_ benefit a person, so feel free to adapt these, what can I say, tips? I am yet to start speaking with prospective spouses, but I think it is going to be tough for me, as many which are coming to me might simply not match my wavelength. But I trust Allah, from my own life(and of others) I know that He has made it easy from me time to time and bestowed favors upon favors, Alhamdullilah. I realized this late but I am content. :)

And to make an effort I meant, your guardian or an elderly member from your family needs to make an effort in finding a good spouse. thausqi yah, the guardian needs to do this but you know in our turkish society, it's frowned upon if fathers ask youg men whether they would like to marry their daughters. It's a very uncomfortable situation l. Besides, everyone would mock my dad if he did that. Imagine the consequences :(

Finding the right Muslim woman that will help you be in a better place in terms of religion is few and far between these days. Even myself who’s living in Egypt (a Muslim country) say that let alone other Muslim men and woman in none Muslim counties. May Allah make it easy for all of us.

Yes it requires patience, but patience with effort. Effort as in meeting people trying to understand their potential and evaluating them. I can just sit at a place and think that I am being patient as such a such a thing is not happening or is unfavorable for me, so I am waiting for it to change and till then I will have patience. But this is not how it works. Even in Islam patience comes with effort, you need to put an effort to remain patient, to give you an example, when the angelic hosts descended to help the first few believers at Badr,(I am paraphrasing what I heard from NAK) the Angles did not say, "Hey stay back and be cool and we will handle it from here.. ", but the believers rushed into battle and the angels followed them. Also, the Prophet(SAW) was praying so much that his companion Abu Bakr(RA) tried to placate him just before the start of the battle, these are the efforts for this type of work. Another example, the Prophet(SAW) and his group for some 19 years were preaching continuously and few people accepted Islam, but when Allah gave him the clear victory at Hudaybiya in the form of a treaty, Islam spread like it was never seen before. Don't you think that the sahaba were among the best muslims? So even Allah reminded after the treaty that it is by His mercy that He is accelerating the acceptance of Islam. I understood this after I read tafhim-al-Qur'an by Abu-Ala-Maududi an English version is available online. The problem is what if your parents (a girl's) have talked to people around and asked them to tell about a boy who is willing to get married. Even then if years have passed by and there is no sign of any proposal. Then what are we supposed to do? Is the marriage bureau business trend the right way to look for a spouse? Because there's the issue of showing ur picture to such and such people. Alot of people look at u. And ur pardah gets sacrificed b bit or alot. I have also heard things like if a girl is not getting married because of her MANLY eyebrows, then she can get them plucked. But what about other things in case of marriage How do u know till what age do u have to wait to sacrifice at something and get married. Plus there are almost no deeni people, the way you want your in-laws to be and it's getting very late in the search. Then what to do? .. So confusing at every step :(

The most frustrating thing as a Muslims girl is the culture that has nothing to do with Islam but is more well carried than the Islamic teachings. Tbh I'm still not at the point to want to find a husband I still have my education in front of me. But we need to just make it normal socially for the bride's family to seek for a spouse. In some cases a person might be very kind to you but you just don't have feelings for them because you can't decide who you fall in love with. Dear Shaikh: For many Muslim Single it is obvious that they need to do their part. If you wanna go some where and you sit in your car, don't just pray, but drive. The real Question is: "HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR"?. is equal to how to find a spouse. Some don't have a car/a guardian so how should they aproach the opposite sex, how to start a conversation and what about. I think there is an issue here, that it seems that shaikhs are hesitant to address: Actually how to start a conversation or getting to know someone, because there is so much pressure that you might be doing something wrong or haram if you like the opposite sex don't chat with them and so on. I think it depends, on each person it is different, for some, their guardians are the best option to help them and for some it is maybe their friends and for some it is maybe themselves and they need to be very observant and if they like someone they need to get to know them and consult someone, maybe a friend or so, with whom they can talk to and ask their opinion, so they stay objective and decide right.

While this video has good intentions and is correct in that we must all make our own efforts to find a spouse, I think a part in all this that is neglected is that we must in the meantime work towards being a better person. Don’t just spend your time looking for a spouse. When one is single it is prime time for one to cultivate good habits, learn new things, find and excel at ones career, develop good mental habits and work on your spirituality. Marriage doesn’t magically make you feel fulfilled. Our life purpose is not to get married. I think in the Muslim community that is the message that inadvertently gets put in young Muslims minds. Our purpose in life is to do good, regardless of our marital status. If we invest in ourselves, we create a situation where we can get through life with confidence and not be so reliant on social constraints. At the end of the day we are all alone. I wish more Muslims understood this. Sorry for the rant my 2 cents. I’ve just seen too many Muslims wait their life way in the quest of a spouse.

Im free and he trusts me that im not going to do anything wrong...but if seems he have forgotten that it's not easy for a female to openly look for a husband..i don't want to be looked down or be that girl who had to flirt her way just to get married. 😓 I've decided to focus on my career instead.
