Wow that mold looks fantastic - Troy is exceptional at using what is available and not re-inventing the wheel every time he encounters a critical workload. I like this channel more and more - more than any of the rest - the refitting of Marool is really inspiring. nm.

You 2 are awesome to watch, not only for the adventure of your travels, but the practical side of your quality boatwork as well. I didn`t get to try it properly, but soaking rusty steel in vinegar cleans it really well, so I tried some corroded aluminium that was threaded and it seemed to work just as well, certainly cleaned out the threads.

I remember our fams first sailboat was a Clansman built by Bruce Fairlie himself in maybe '72. Remember my father with tiller in one hand and a book on how to sail in the other. Generally Us 4 kids looked on obliviously.... Sailed all round Sydney harbour and Pittwater area. Maybe 2 years later we bought a new Cole31 half tonner from Bruce. I was too young to crew the big race in '75 but the boat won its class in the Sydney to Hobart and beat all he 3/4 tonners across the line for good measure. An incredible feat said Modern Boating mag.... They were strongly made boats for sure.... Wild to see on youtube. Best wishes to you both.

When you chamfer those holes in the furler you lessen the surface area that the shackle has to ride on, thus increasing the force felt on the remaining surface and consequently increasing the wear on the furler mount

Round holes in steel/metal structures are vitally important. At the very least rounded corners in square or rectangle openings. Have firsthand experience with improper openings in huge million+ bushel welded steel grain storage bins. Cracks running from square corners ultimately caused total failure of structure under load.

That bronze bow casting mold job was genius work. I can't wait to see how the new cap rail on the gunn'l goes on and is fitted up to the bronze casting. When I last had all our deck hardware off I wish I would have epoxied down a 13mm plinth under every fitting and out a fillet around it. I did it on a couple of places on the aft deck because the stern rail was dimpling and deforming the top layer of the deck sandwich where the leg pads were through-bolted to the deck. There was only divinycell foam core and at some point the rail was hit in some "incident" before we owned the boat and the deck was getting deformed. Plinths stabilised the issue well, along with drill-fill-drill epoxy through the foam core But they have also raised the pads up a little over the incidental green water or rain sloshing around on deck, easing the load on the sealant. I wish I had done the same to all of the stanchion bases and all the cleats too, as well as the pulpit bases. Now is the time to do it before painting and anti-skid application.

Incredible work, I hope someone from the Clansman company is watching the TLC you're putting into Mirrool. And amazing video production too Pascale, I know you have to be juggling a hundred difference scenes from over the course of the last few months to put them in sequence. The old transom hung rudder boat next to Mirrool at 6:52 is classic too

That mast is looking pukka! I like the suggestion by another subscriber about leaving a pair of steps near the spreaders and at the masthead. What about the boom? Are you getting a replacement or doing a more "permanent" repair - I mean the current "temporary" repair seems to be holding up pretty well!
