Acid + Metal = salt + hydrogen. is it neutralisation?
@Freesciencelessons5 жыл бұрын
No because neutralisation is defined as the reaction between a base (including alkalis) and an acid. So acid + metal would not be called neutralisation even though the remaining solution could be neutral. Hope that helps.

@Freesciencelessons6 жыл бұрын
The AQA spec says that students should be able to recall and describe the reactions, if any, of potassium, sodium, lithium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron and copper with water or dilute acids and where appropriate, to place these metals in order of reactivity. So you are not required to memorise the whole reactivity series but you need to recall the above.

The salt will be "- nitrate".
@janerym41304 жыл бұрын
are the acids nuetralized in these cases?
@Freesciencelessons4 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. At the end of the reaction there will be no acid molecules left and the salt solution should be neutral. However, "neutralisation" is defined by AQA as the reaction between an acid and either an alkali / base to produce a salt and water or between an acid and a metal carbonate to produce a salt, water and carbon dioxide. So strictly speaking the reaction between a metal and acid is not a neutralisation reaction according to that definition.
@janerym41304 жыл бұрын
