Idk if a gingersnap is considered a freestyle or street trick, but with the amount of hang ten tricks I think it would make a great trick tip. Great video all the same
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: gingersnaps are named after a British freestyler - Lewis "Gingerbred" Hand. He was the first "new era" British pro freestyler; he had a pro model on Casper Industries in 2002, and that was his trick. I'd say that makes it a freestyle trick! I don't really do gingersnaps any more (broke my toe on one in 2004), but I could dust it off at some point. Bebops come first, though.

Sometime you should make a trick tip on one footwork trick that is like a complex version of a backward jay walk that Kevin Harris does sometimes. If you know what I'm talking about, do you know what it's called?
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, odd coincidence. I was thinking about that very sequence earlier today! It's called the Anne Murray Shuffle and is equal parts nightmare and a repetitive strain injury waiting to happen. Many years ago, I sat down and figured out what's happening. In short, it's three steps repeated over and over again: 1) Walk the dog. 2) Step back to the nose as if you're going to do another walk the dog, but do a fakie frontside pivot (while your front foot is still pointed at your back one) on that back foot. 3) Use the front foot - which is still in the centre of the board - to do a one footed pivot on the nose (or tail, or whatever. This gets confusing fast). There's two major problems with this sequence: 1) You end up incredibly twisted up. You're going forwards while looking like you're going backwards. 2) As mentioned in point 3 above, your front foot should be in the centre of the board when you finish the walk the dog, so how do you do a one footed pivot using that foot? Kevin had big feet and a tiny wheelbase on his pro model (10.625", if the Freestyle Knowledge Base is correct); I've done the Anne Murray Shuffle on his pro model and you barely need to move your front foot at all due to that tiny wheelbase. My pro model has a 12" wheelbase, and that's too long to make it work easily; on a lot of modern decks with 13"+ wheelbases, you run into trouble fast. This over-sized comment is basically a long way of saying I'd love to do a tricktip on it, but I'd have to learn the bastard thing smoothly first, and last time I tried it on a modern board for any real length of time, I couldn't walk right for a week without my knee hurting. But hey. There's still no events happening due to the pandemic, so if I'm going to cripple myself, there's no time to do it like the present.

Another random question: Would you say that one foot wheelies are easier than standard wheelies?
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
I think it's going to vary from person to person. For instance, I have never met a mongo pusher who didn't find the one footed tail wheelie easier than a regular wheelie, while I absolutely hate that one. Personally, whenever I do a one footed wheelie - either tail or nose - there's a lot of flailing with the other leg, and I think pretty much everyone else does the same. I never found that comfortable (or aesthetically pleasing, for that matter). For me, two footed wheelies (either hang ten or heelie) are the easiest ones to do. Something about them just seems *right* - they lock in, and then I don't have to think about them. Heelies (two foot tail) in particular are hilariously easy... if a bit uncomfortable.

What's the smallest freestyle board out there? I like fast foot work, so I'm wondering about this, even though it's pretty unrelated to the video.
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
Smallest one available nowadays (which is worth skating) is going to be the Tracker Jean Marc reissues. Those things are 7" wide and 26.5" long - that's ridiculously small. Decomposed still have some in stock, so that's an option. The reissue of Mullen's first board (the Mutt, not the Chessboard) is 7" x 26", so that's a bit smaller, but it's exorbitantly expensive and honestly one of the worst shapes ever made.
@dididiihas3 жыл бұрын
@@FreestyleTricktips Lol, I already have the Jean Marc deck, which I got for cheap since it was a blemish, plus I'm aware of the Mutt board, its price, and I expected the shape to be considered bad. Well I guess I already knew lol.
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
@@dididiihas If you've already got the Jean Marc and you're looking for smaller... frankly, you're my kind of insane. Every so often, I get to skate with Eli Meyers, and she's always got her Kevin Harris setup with her (she uses it as part of a two-board trick). That thing is 7" x 26.6" if I remember right, and I always find myself thinking that if it wasn't as predictably fucked up as every Powell freestyle deck was (why is the nose so insanely long? WHY?), I could really get on with that deck. Americans are pushing so hard for bigger and bigger boards, but being able to skate on something that small really opens up a lot of interesting options.

I wanted to ask were i can buy a freestyle skateboard because i went to zumiez and they gad no idea what i was talking about so can anyone tell me were i can buy them
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
Well, first off: Don't buy skateboards of any kind from Zumiez. Go to a skater-owned shop, whether a real brick and mortar one or an online one. Support small brands and the grass roots. Even if you don't care about the politics and economics of it, Zumiez aren't going to sell any of the really good or interesting stuff, as you just found out. So... complete freestyle boards. My recommendation for a one-stop shop for freestyle boards in the US is modeskateboards.com/ - the guy who runs Mode is a great guy and really cares about his product. You're not going to get a pre-built freestyle complete to that quality at that price anywhere else.

How would a Hypothetical no kick board that is the size of a modern freestyle board be for freestyle? It would be like a single kick on both ends, rather than a 60's hunk of wood.

@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
I sell freestyle boards - and completes - over at www.offsetskatesupply.co.uk, but you're looking at about $360 (NZD) for a complete... plus shipping. The sad fact of the matter is that freestyle stuff is very specialised and there's a lot more to a complete, so it ends up costing more. The good news is that, generally, they're more usable for longer (due to the skid plates, woodscrews, wheels that cover the axle nuts, etc.), so your overall cost through the years is probably lower. It just stings when you're having to get started.
@clipedsk83 жыл бұрын
@@FreestyleTricktips yeah a lot. is using a normal skateboard for freestyle a good idea or bad?
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
@@clipedsk8 If you mean a street skateboard (there's no such thing as a "normal" skateboard, only what you're used to), then... it's not ideal. If it's all you have, then use it. I started on a 7.75" street setup. Rode that style of setup for two years before I finally made the swap. The biggest problems you'll have are kicktail angles and the overall length making everything a lot harder. Even if you just swap to a shorter "mini" setup you'll have a better time of it.

Oddly enough this trick clicked for me once I started putting my weight closer to the outside edge of my foot rather than my toe or ball of my foot. I’m slightly pigeon-toed, so I think that may be why it works that way for me.
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
Oh, that *is* odd. Do you have fairly narrow feet? I think I'd just snag on the board with my wide boats if I tried it that way.
@jacobhughes-gartin10573 жыл бұрын
@@FreestyleTricktips If anything my feet are a bit larger than average, but effectively narrowed by supination - the inside edge just has a natural tendency to lift up so it stays clear of the board fairly easily.
