Thanks, man. My modus operandi has always been "create what I wish other people would have already done", so it's always reassuring I'm not putting in all this work for an audience of one - i.e. myself.

Almost did this on my 8.25 street deck at the park yesterday with very little practice after watching your video closely. Everyone thought I was a wizard and were very inspired to learn some tricks from rail! Thanks for sharing these and going so in depth.

Thanks, mate. That's exactly the sort of feedback I like to hear - I spend *ages* thinking about the various failure points and things I wish people had pointed out to me precisely to try to make stuff as easy as possible for folks to learn. I'm glad it works!

Hey love the series bro learning so much! Could you do a video on rail walks? i am really struggling to learn those. I'm using a regular popsicle board so idk if that's my problem but i swear i've seen people do it on them as well! anyways, thanks!
@FreestyleTricktips2 жыл бұрын
Define what you mean by "rail walks"? I've heard two things given that name so I'm curious which you're referring to. As far as setups go, street/popsicle setups are inherently less stable in rail, so it will make any rail tricks more difficult, but not impossible. Nothing wrong with sticking with what you've got for the time being but you might want to consider making the swap to a dedicated setup soon if you want to take freestyle seriously - it makes a HUGE difference!
@ryanvega74202 жыл бұрын
@@FreestyleTricktips gotcha thanks! It's when you get in rail, then step in the middle with front or back foot and cross the other foot over to the truck you stepped off of and then start over back in heel rail. Every time I try to do the crossover my board just shoots down under me Whenever I watch your videos you explain the tricks so specifically all those small details you include really help me learn tricks and clean up other ones I thought I had down clean before finding your series so I was hoping you could help me with this one too! thanks again hope you're having a great day
@FreestyleTricktips2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanvega7420 Ah, yeah. I know the one. I usually teach that as a balance exercise more than a trick, per se. Board setup will make the biggest difference on how that one works/feels - a wider board will be more likely to topple over, and if the deck isn't leaning VERY slightly towards the wheels in rail, it'll be inherently unstable, no matter what width it is. Truck tightness also plays a part in that one, as wobbly trucks = a wobbly railstand. Weight distribution will also play a big part in if you can do the crossover, but if your board setup is pure jank, you're losing the battle before it's even begun.

As a teenager I could do heelflips, but could not for the life of me get kickflips. Then I tore my ACL and after recovering from the surgery, I could do kickflips but completely lost heelflips. So I’m convinced it was like a low-stakes version of those horror stories where someone gets an organ transplant from a serial killer and it possesses them, but in my case it was just a matter of my tissue donor preferring kickflips to heelflips. I’m not sure why I felt it necessary to share this story, but the important thing is that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. Anyway I really appreciate this trick tip and look forward to trying these again, since I now realize I was way too heavy on my back foot in my earlier attempts.
@FreestyleTricktips3 жыл бұрын
You get the love heart purely for the onion on the belt. I wasn't expecting that reference and it made me genulol. On a non-memey note: I actually couldn't heelflip at all until I got on a non-concave board. Doesn't matter if it's my pro model or a flat single kick - heelflips just work on that style of board for me, but I've never once managed to land one where concave is involved. I don't get the same smooth exit from the board if there's even a tiny bit of concave, and the board ends up nose-diving towards the ground every time.

Of course you can; Kevin Harris used to skate a tiny matchstick (7" x 26.75", if I remember right), and he's got giant clown shoes. Big feet don't mean you need a bigger deck, no matter what kids say.

Any particular lotions, powders, or scented oils you can recommend that might help me get in touch with my skateboard’s needs? Perhaps I should play it shakuhachi flute recordings?

Essential oils are always a good choice. Patchouli and lavender will work well for latte flips, but I do recommend swapping to something more citrus-based for rail flips in general.
