About This Release:
DJ/producer Kungs remix of This Girl has rocketed up the pop & dance charts right across Europe including over a month as the Official #1 in France, has just entered the Official UK Top 30, is on the BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM Playlists and also reverberated around stadiums on David Guettas' recent tour which feature Kungs as his support act.
The original version of Cookin' On 3 Burners 'This Girl was released back in 2009 - and became one of the best loved retro soul hits of the last decade. Taken from the band's album Soul Messin', the track went onto cross over massively on the contemporary Northern and Modern Soul scenes - becoming a huge favourite around the world - from Japanese funk clubs to legendary events like The Southport Soul Weekender. Copies of the vinyl 45 began to change hands for serious amounts of money online, and each subsequent repress sold out so quickly Freestyle Records couldn't keep them on the shelves!
Kylie Auldists' simply stunning performance is just one factor in this songs amazing appeal, riding on top of the bands mellow, beautiful playing on this incredibly catchy song. You can watch a live performance video of the song HERE
Freestyle have decided to re-release this classic track, coupled with the previously unheard instrumental and acapella versions, which may well bring even more people under the spell of this magical piece of music.
Furthermore, Freestyle will also be releasing Kylie's 'Family Tree' album, produced by her long time collaborator Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos/Lanu/CO3B/Black Feeling) and Graeme Pogson, which is a quite brilliant modern collection of boogie, disco & electro-funk inspired tracks that evoke the feel and sound of late 70's & early 80's club classics- so this year will see a great deal more of this unique Antipodean artists beautiful voice gracing airwaves, dance floors and charts.

I know the Mel Sugar does not get credit in the remix and I've read in the credits of the remix that the vocals is the artist Kylie Auldist. I absolutely love the remix and have ever since it came out. It reminds me of a summer when I was younger without a care in the world, going out with friends, meeting girls for the first time and feeling optimistic for the future. After that summer I had some terrible times and now I’m back to how I felt around that time. The original is kind of like a throwback for me but also new at the same time. It reminds me of the journey I’ve been on and how proud I am to have came out the other side.

At first I thought, as many of you, that Kuno just speed up the song, but that would be a pretty hurryed conclusion. What he did is respecting a lot of the original theme soul but introducing it to a different rythm and gendre, providing energy and style that ended in a completely different expirience at listening that version of the music, even when the chords, lyrics and notes appear to be the very same. I was stunned when I met each one of the versions, and it impressed me to realise that there was an older version that already had everything musical that made the second so enjoyable. I don't like many of the remixes that lost the original soul, so I respect what the artists did in this case, and I'm glad they came this way.

The tempo of this tune is 101 bpm. The Kungs remix is 122, therefore, 1.25 is close, but the exact factor that you'd have to increase this by, is about 1.20792079208. You can round that to just x1.2, (101 x 1.2 = 121.2 so you're almost an entire bpm out but it's close enough)
