Great video. By the way, you mentioned that Louis Armstrong may have never set foot on the park grounds. The park grounds were actually built on a portion of Storyville which he spent a lot of time in.

Really liked the flow of this tour and the pace of the history shared. I am watching Burn's Jazz Music series on KPBS and that led me to this video. ..The question I was looking to get answered, How did jazz music begin and what came before it?, was answered by this video. Thanks, I will def keep watching more of your tours!

I didnt know that people that came down for relief coming back was a huge thing. Thats me! We housed a dog and his poppa for about teo years and ive been back to NOLA every year since. The dog and his human have become like family. I say its my lotus story. Somthing so good and beautiful came out of something so dark and horrible.

Hello Andrew...Charles Joseph "Buddy" Bolden (September 6, 1877 - November 4, 1931) was an African American cornetist who was regarded by contemporaries as a key figure in the development of a New Orleans style of ragtime music, or "jass," which later came to be known as "Jazz Music." Louis Armstrong came later ( (August 4, 1901 - July 6, 1971) Bolden is rightfully known as 'The Father Of Jazz.'

I really enjoy the way you do the videos Andrew :) Two of my favorite musicians from New Orleans are the late(wonderful) Roger Ridley(Playing for Change 's first artist I believe) and the amazing Gramdpa Elliot Small who were street musicians . Gramdpa Elliot went on to join "Playing For Change" which sought to bring music to young people around the world :)

Thank you Mary-Anne! Love the shout-out to Playing for Change - anyone who loves or misses street music should definitely look for Grandpa Elliott on their website (or on this website!). They've featured a lot of New Orleans talent in 2020, too, which has been a help in the absence of live shows.

Andrew-I enjoyed this one. As a (semi-pro) musician, I'm always glad to see stories of New Orleans' musical history. One suggestion: When you get the chance, I would urge you to check out the Monday Night Blues Jam at D Macs Bar and Grille, on Jeff Davis at Tulane ave. It's been in existence for 7-8 years now, and has gained a national reputation among blues/rock/R&B/other musicians. The food is good and the drinks are strong also!

I’ve just discovered your videos! I’m playing catch-up! Thinking of coming to New Orleans between Thanksgiving and Christmas can you give me your opinion if that’s a good time of year to visit? Thank you.

Hi Todd. Yes. It's a great time to visit. Other than the holiday dates themselves, New Orleans is relatively less crowded than usual with good weather. I have a few posts for you to browse. freetoursbyfoot.com/things-to-do-in-new-orleans-in-november/. freetoursbyfoot.com/things-december-new-orleans/. freetoursbyfoot.com/christmas-in-new-orleans/

I see preservation hall is back open. As of today the latest dates open/on the calendar are in late February. When is a good time to check on availability? Is it generally 2 months ahead of time? Also what is the attitude toward covid measures. I see the rules in black and white but how they are “enforced” is a different matter. Are people more laid back about the rules or militant. And not implying anyone should not follow the rules but if my type 1 diabetic family member needs to take his mask off in doors to eat a snack in order to bring up his blood sugar I really don’t want to be forced to deal with crazy covid nazi’s.
