Are the green beans aready cooked if you bought from grocery
@timelliott60362 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you used a scale (most British cooking uses a scale instead of measuring spoons) and weighted the product (eg. eggs) before and after processing them, then by weight you would know how much water to use to reconstitute the product.
@TinaGolik2 жыл бұрын
Thats true, and I love the tv show "The Great British Bake Off" but each egg is different each day. The same chicken can lay a small egg one day, and a double yoked egg the next day. Plus if your in a hurry its easier to just scoop out some powder, and add enough water to reach a fresh egg texture.
@timelliott60362 жыл бұрын
@@TinaGolik, sorry if I wasn’t clear about the weighing. I was not thinking of weighing each egg, but of a batch. Count the eggs. Put all the eggs in a container, weigh them. Freeze dry. Weigh them again. See the difference. Divide by the number of eggs and you should get the weight difference per egg.

@@timelliott6036 If you powder the freeze dried (raw scrambled) eggs, then the ratio to reconstitute a large egg is 1 Tablespoon egg powder to 2 Tablespoons water. Hope this helps.

I have seen some of the commercial videos by Harvest Right… but I like yours better. Clear explanations and I like the sampling! With the raw eggs are there any worries about salmonella or does the freezing take care of that?
@TinaGolik2 жыл бұрын
No worries about salmonella. The eggs are safe because they are completely dry. It would be a concern if there was any moisture left in them. They are the exact same as freeze dried eggs you'd buy in the store (a can from my patriot supply containing 72 eggs cost $87.95, and they are cheaper than other companies ), These eggs are shelf stable for 25+ years.
@joanstrunk4715 Жыл бұрын
But remember, these are still raw eggs and must be cooked before consuming, either as scrambled cooked eggs or baked in cakes, etc.

Are there times you can leave the food in the FD like say it finishes in the middle of t he night - will it remain at peak condition? Liked your video btw - very helpful :)
@corinnemaldonado439 Жыл бұрын
You can increase the extra dry time if you think it will be done in the middle of the night. I have put mine on for an extra 10 hours. It doesn't hurt the food.
@cadre50011 ай бұрын
If you use club soda or seltzer water instead of lemon water you won't alter the flavor or your apples or bananas once you cut them.

Would love one but unfortunately in Canada it’s very expensive 7+ k 😢

I have heard so much that you can’t do sour cream. But it looks like you did. Was it low fat or full fat or what? And how did it reconstitute?
@TinaGolik Жыл бұрын
It was regular sour cream. I don’t buy low fat because I don’t think it matters. I just add water until it returns to the right consistency as sour cream. If you Google freeze dried foods for sale, it gives you a good idea of things you can freeze dry.

I absolutely loved my harvest right freeze dryer for the 7 months that it worked but after that the machine died the company could not get it working even after sending me 6 computer boards that I had to install myself apparently there is some sort of a virus embedded in their computer system that they cannot figure out so my recommendation would recommendation would be wait on buying the machine. let me say one more time I love this machine while it worked.

Looked like you had some moisture in your drain hose when you opened the valve.
@TinaGolik Жыл бұрын
Yes! All the moisture in foods is pulled through the drain hose and empties into the bucket I have set under it. Some foods have more than others. I’m currently freeze drying candy and there is very little moisture.
@240weatherby3 Жыл бұрын
@@TinaGolik what I was trying to say is. I think you pulled moisture back into the machine when you opened your drain valve. Which is not a good thing to do watch the replay and you will see what I’m talking about

@@240weatherby3 I don’t think it goes back in. You have to open the drain valve. It releases the pressure in the chamber.

How in the world did you get a right hand FD machine?
@TinaGolik10 ай бұрын
It opens from right to left. My camera turns video around. Sometimes while editing the video I remember to turn the video, but most times I don’t because it doesn’t matter, and editing takes hours already. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment.

Thanks for the video but I stopped before halfway done because the camera you are using, like the front of your phone, reverse the image and letters so I'm not getting a true video of the product or words being shown. I'll check back in a few months and see if you have updated how you record using maybe a different camera or video helper. Thanks.
