I love this trick! It's so clever! Of course it was a mom that came up with it. I have decided to start making my own breakfast sandwiches to take to work because it's just too expensive to buy one out every morning. This trick is exactly what I was looking for and I am about to use it. Thank you!

I also use Mason Jar Rings. It is important to place them top down like you do, as it keeps the white from leaking better than the other way. I don't turn my eggs, I put a little water into pan and put a lid on to allow steam to cook top of tve egg. This also helps to keep the eggs from scorching and making a skin.

Me too! I've gotten lazy and I do them baked in a casserole dish now most of the time! (I did a video on baking them that way about a month or so after I filmed this one.) Someone else mentioned that they bake them on a big sheet pan and then use a round biscuit cutter to cut them into circles! So you get the circles without the hassle of using the lids. :)

How do I keep the eggs from burning? Whenever I turn them over, the other side is always very browned or burnt.
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 4 жыл бұрын
If they are getting too brown on the bottom before they are set enough to flip them over, try lowering the heat - that should help them set so you can flip without getting too brown.

How well do these freeze? Or what's the best approach to freezing them and then using frozen eggs (microwave?) Thanks.
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 4 жыл бұрын
I have not had any problems freezing them. Eggs actually do really well in the freezer in most cases. I use these on breakfast sandwiches - we just pull the sandwiches right from the freezer and put into the microwave to reheat. If you're freezing just the eggs, you can let them thaw overnight in the fridge (I do that with my Instant Pot Egg Bites for breakfast), or just reheat straight from frozen in the microwave.

Make sure your griddle is preheated and hot, and start with the rings with the lip down - that will help the eggs not spread underneath and stay in the rings. Oh, and don't forget to spray/grease the inside of the rings. ;) Let me know how they turn out!

Are those metal rings one time use? If they are reusable, how many times before they become unsafe to use? BTW, I've seen other using this "Balls" rings, your method is different, your rings are upside down.
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 4 жыл бұрын
These are the metals rings that are used with canning jars for preserving food. They can be used over and over. I'm not sure how using them this way multiple times would make them unsafe. However, if they have been used for canning in the past, you'll need to make sure they are free of any rust (as they can sometimes rust after being used for canning). I start with my rings upside down because I have found that the tiny lip on the top side, which I put face down touching the griddle, helps to keep the eggs from leaking out under the edges of the rings. So when I do it this way, I have very little leakage and the eggs stay in the ring until they are more set and can be turned. If I start with them the other way, where the tip is up and not touching the griddle, I get a big mess and my eggs tend to leak out under the edges of the rings. Some of that will depend on your griddle and how hot you're cooking them at, so try both ways and see what works best for you.

can these freeze overnight? How long until they spoil? What about making them the night before and keeping them refrigerated overnight? Will they get soggy or taste bad the next day?
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 3 жыл бұрын
Yup - they freeze just fine. I put them on freezer breakfast sandwiches and then freeze the whole sandwich. You can also freeze just the eggs. Food will last indefinitely in the freezer if packaged correctly, but quality can suffer as time goes by, so for something like eggs or breakfast sandwiches you should try to eat within 3 months. You can also make the eggs and refrigerate them - I do that with egg bites and scrambled eggs and have never had any problems with them being soggy or tasting funny. For example, I will make up a bunch of egg bites and freeze them, then pull one bag of them out of the freezer and put it into the fridge to thaw, and I'll pull the egg bites from there each morning for breakfast. I've kept them for several days in the fridge with no problems. Try just a few to start with, just to make sure.

I know - it's an offense to serious egg lovers everywhere, including my husband! I'm allergic to egg yolks, so it's just habit for me to break them because the more they are mixed with the white the easier they are for me to eat. Husband would prefer that I leave them just barely set, so the yolks run when you bite into them....

My only concern is that the metal lids could release toxins if heated enough?
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom Жыл бұрын
They are aluminum canning lids - they get much hotter in a pressure canner than they will on a griddle. They pass food safety standards, but if you'd rather not go this route, you can find silicone or plastic versions of the rings that are specifically made for cooking eggs this way. Or you can buy what are called "muffin top" pans and bake the eggs in the oven, which is what I do now. You still get perfect round eggs but it's much more hands-off and you can do multiple pans at a time in the oven usually.

Hope there’s no BPAs in those lids. Most canning jar lids have BPAs. Couple with high heat..no bueno.
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 3 жыл бұрын
BPA was only found in the canning jar lids (the flat parts with the rubber seals), not the rings used in this video, so no concerns using them on the griddle. As an FYI, thanks to consumer concerns here in the US, the major manufacturers (Jarden lids made for Ball and Kerr) removed all BPA from all canning lids as of 2015 or earlier. www.healthycanning.com/bpa-and-canning-lids/

@@dallashall9958 You brought up a valid concern and I had to look it up to make sure I had the correct info, so it was great that you brought it up! I knew the rings didn't have BPA but I hadn't realized that the flat lids did have some prior to a few years ago. Glad they made the change to BPA-free though and I will definitely be looking to make sure I get Ball or Kerr lids from now on.

@@MakeAheadMealMom funny..I was looking up how to use egg rings, saw your vid. I’m always worried about heating up aluminum or plastics with BPAs with food. So I googled to see, and I found what I posted. It was probably dated. Your research seems more credible. I ended up ordering some in the mean time. Probably unnecessary expense. Flipping with tongs actually looks easier.
@MakeAheadMealMom
@MakeAheadMealMom 3 жыл бұрын
@@dallashall9958 The video is older, too. I've since switched to baking my eggs in the oven in round muffin-top pans. ;) I have both silicone and metal ones and like them both. It allows me to make a bunch of round eggs without having to stand over a griddle anymore. Here are the silicone ones I have, if you'd like to take a look (amzn.to/3t6iXnc). The funny thing is that the whole canning rings thing came about because I had egg rings and could never get them to work right because they always leaked at the bottom! So I grabbed the canning rings one day and tried them instead because they have that little lip that I hoped would help stop the leaking. Which it mostly did. Did you end up getting egg rings?
