Thanks for update. I’m degreed in Supply Chain. Logistics is just one area of degree. I’d suggest for Freight Dispatcher to build a file with end user (customer) delivery requirements and after hour contacts in the event driver has issues unloading goods (freight).

Neena great Q&A! Thanks for the info. Just wanted to let the people know I took a freight broker course and they are not the same as a dispatcher. A freight broker does dispatching as well but they are able to go out and scout shippers(companies with products) and get dedicated runs/loads and have a contract with these companies. That's why surety bonds, authority, and having an actual business structure is a requirement. Becoming a freight broker in my opinion is only necessary A: if own a truck and are planning on acquiring multiple trucks. B: You are a dispatcher with a network of at the very least 10 owner operators that you have a had a long term relationship with that are willing to move your loads for contracts that you aquire. C: a combination of A & B. Dispatching is great because you don't have to have a lot of money to get started and you don't have all the financial responsibilities of a freight broker. Also fun fact Freight brokers normally charge 15% for their service because of all that it entails and they are the liason between the shipper directly without the use of a a load board and the truck driver. Most freight brokers are posting the loads on the load boards for dispatchers to secure for their drivers. Dispatchers work for truck drivers,(Owner Operators) like Neena said they are kind of like the secretary for the truck driver. Hope this helps in knowing the difference between Dispatchers and Freight Brokers. In all of my learning, I have decided to become a dispatcher first and I will definitely move on to owning my own freight brokerage because my husband has his own truck and authority and he plans on acquiring more trucks. Right now he books his own loads and I help out with his paper work but I'm trying to get started with dispatching. So once again thank you so much Neena for putting your videos and information out there. I love you practical approach.😘

It doesn’t stop. Its 24 hours and you need to know where to send them, lumpers. If they have long delays at shippers or consignees how to get them paid and make sure they can still deliver/reload on time based on their HOS.

You pretty much do all back office paperwork. You do your own invoice for the loads you book, you send those invoices to your carrier. You can also do your carriers invoicing if they want you to.

The driver should have completed a credit authorization form onboarded which would include all of his/her info on how to get paid once the load has proof of delivery sent to the dispatcher.

A lot of times a drive has a factoring company (correct terminology) and if he or she does not, they get paid as net 30 meaning they want the broker to mail them a check. Your biggest concern should be the agreement of payment between you and the carrier. How you will get paid and when you expect payment.

That may be the case for drivers it me as a broker don’t use a factoring company. Therefore if they want to get paid less than Net30 I have them complete the authorization form.
