Please DO NOT make an emotional business decision. A semi choice should be made with business savvy and facts and figures. The number one cost of trucking is FUEL! My 2019 Prime inc species cascadia has 472,479 miles and has burned 51,337 gallons for 9.20 MPG!!!! Make your truck choice decision based on 1) fuel economy, 2) ease of maintenance ( can you get parts and service quickly and how many shops service the make/model near you), 3)lastly should be style and colors)

Just bought a 2023 Peterbilt 579. Funny you mention about doors cuz my door started falling off after month 1. The bolts holding the hinge of the side farring started to fall out after month 2. So basically they don't torque the nuts and bolts at the plant. After month 3 the coolant started leaking (thankfully just from the hoses so the clamps needed tightening). Now we are getting grinding noises whenever we touch the brakes and this is after month 3 now. So there is my experience so far lol.

Why all of the hateful comments? Eric expressed his opinion, which I found valuable. Currently, I'm about to cross the goal on my first lease at Prime and wondering what truck I might like to buy. My wife and I team in a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia. Trying to get decent sleep in this rough riding SOB is an incredibly tough experience. Thinking we might go ahead with the Peterbilt. Thanks again Eric! Hope you and family are doing well.

I prefer the kw t680 to the freightliner or Peterbilt. People say the t680 and 579 are the same truck but I can say from experience the t680 is a smoother ride and better interior layout
@tooswee2 жыл бұрын
The new T680 offer the battery powered bunk's AC and heatet which would turn the tide it's direction. Yes they are the same truck but that 579 ultraloft is to die for larger interior 50k weight load on the drives.. which makes it difficult to best by any other truck. If they figure out how to put a larger frig in the 579 with that battery powered AC/heater it will replace your home.
@gamerontop65862 жыл бұрын
Yep the t680 is one of the best trucks for me I have a t680 from kenworth ofc the 2019 model it’s good had the steering issues that the steering couldn’t move right also had an engine derate but it’s not bad but not really realiable at the same time again it’s not bad but you need a good care for the truck so it can be realiable.

Its dependent on the skill of the people and quality of the parts on the assembly line, in my opinion. It's also, how you care for the truck....some people are fairly rough on trucks and some treat their truck gently

Eric, you’ve called dealers and Success Leasing about buying and financing a truck, you have run freight in both a Pete and Freightliner, your building a fleet and hiring drivers….what research have you done about selling as truck? What is your exit strategy for a paid for truck? Is there a “BlueBook” for trucks? A specific website that is more productive to sale a truck? What role does truck sales at Prime play?

As company driver i like drive and comfort of 579 yet freightliner breaks less my Pete got engine light every 2 weeks. Freightliner rough ride back killer less repairs. I prefer Detroit that lasts longer Cummings drive better more power lower rpm.

FYI before anyone gets into leasing , lease purchase . Things to remember. 1. You will be driving for the company it is leased too. 2 even if you do pay this off with 350000 ran your ass off , now you have a truck with what engine in it : ie :can it pull without ripping up the engine . 3 these trucks are geared to deliver the best fuel economy for the company , and yourself . Ie direct drive .4. Do yourself a favour buy a Cummins with 500 in it Alison 12 speed put down 20 grand at loan mountain or wherever your preference is , and go where you want ,make money control your own destiny. Just my insite .. oh my experience.... 33 years out here been up and down the road a couple of times .. now don’t get me wrong if you are a driver with no experience and you need to put a year in . First pick would be May company .. 2 nd pick prime . Do your time happy truckin .. stay safe .

I think! will be better if you talk about "parts availability and maintenance cost" for each, and that how you give credits for one to the other. Thank you for the topic.

I don't know much about trucks, but I was on a road trip across 5 states last summer (TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA), and the truck I saw the most on the road was the Freightliner Cascadia (newest bodystyle but also previous one). I don't know if this is cost-related or drivers just prefer the Cascadia, but boy were there a lot of them. I would see 7 or 8 of them for 1 of anything else.
@LinwoodPowell Жыл бұрын
They are the cheapest and easiest to maintain, as far as parts go. They also get better fuel economy. Other than that, they don't ride smoothly, built cheaply, and are not very desirable for real OTR truckers.

Frieghtliners are money makers. People buy Peterbilts and KW's because to truckers they are more cool.

Peterbilt dash rattles so loudly. The Freightliner Jake is on stalk on the steering column but on the Peterbilt it was on the dash. The Freightliner is way better. QC is mounted better too on Freightliner. The only issue is the bouncyness.

You hit the nail on the head with your info......I was told one time that vehicles no matter what they are are imperfect vehicles made by imperfect people ........there is gonna be issues with a vehicle whether it be a regular vehicle or a big truck......hopefully the issues are not major and are kept to a minimum.........i know exactly what you mean about the drivers door.......my GMC 3500 that I drive every day I’m in and out 20 to 30 times a day......I’ve already replaced the bushings in the hinges once ......now they need to be replaced again.......same thing with the starter......it gets used 50 times a day sometimes.......I’ve already replaced it 3 times because of the amount of use it sees.....am I mad that the starter doesn’t hold up? Not really.....look how much it gets used........some people complain about their vehicle having problems........i tell them if you don’t want to have any issues with your vehicle park it in the garage or barn.......I’ve heard the same about freightliner being quicker to get things fixed vs Peterbilt.......but as you mentioned the Peterbilt rides better......my question is: Whenever you upgrade and be a company solo driver can you get a new truck? Or will you get a gently used one? Be safe out there......look forward to the next video....😁

My 2020 579 high beam headlamp has been repaired 3 time and this 4th time I just gave up on it. Once it repaired the high beam is fine until you drive for a few miles. And when that right high beam brows it takes out the right indicator light on the tractor but not the trailer.. Did you have this problem? 2nd problem was DEF level sensor went out. Other than those two issues nother compared to my 2017 579 Pete.

Just one question? I have a CDL A, working on my endorsements (which I should have taken earlier) but now I’m looking to get a job and I’ve been told about some private smaller firms and the big box companies like Schneider, Crete, Maverick, TMC or Prime. I’ve ignored the others because they’re slave operators. However, I’m a first year driver, a newbie so I have to take what I can get. Having said that, I live in the NYC area and I’ve been looking at Prime Inc. I like Prime because they offer the TNT program which puts you on the road for a longer period of time vs. other carriers. I personally do not believe that three weeks training is enough to get you driving solo. So with your experience with Prime, do you like it? Do they treat you well and can you choose them as a full time career? Thank you for your advice.

Good insight, Eric. I’ve watched a ton of videos on this. You touched on some of what I have been wondering and set that straight…but still have some questions. I’m thinking Freightliner is a solid economical truck. Being a solo newbie at Prime and learning the business and freight lanes, do you think Freightliner is more economical with regard to fuel and leasing payments? Peterbilt is a nice truck, but is the truck’s overhead a bit steep for newbie solo driver? The Freightliner is a work truck, however, were you able to “feel at home” in that truck? I guess what I’m saying is who wouldn’t want a Peterbilt (nice riding luxurious truck) but is it cost prohibitive for a newbie solo driver?

i own a 2020 western star 4 years and they are good trucks too i had small problems in begin but once i got to about 70 to 80 thousand miles didn't really have no more problems beside oil changes. But they are just work horses and they just equal to freightliner which freightliner do make them now. the only bad thing about a western star they cheaply made accessories air vents,cabinets, shelves tears up to quickly and they are a rough riding truck only made to pull freight and have power and very strong trucks hope this helps
@apolloniaaskew94873 жыл бұрын
Freightliner/Western Star trucks have gone down in quality. Their quality should be the same as Mercedes Benz (since they're owned by the same company Diamler) Every truck manufacturer (from diesel pickups to Class 8) is having engine problems with DEF and other unknown problems. PACCAR officials went to Toyota to learn how to build trucks better. The higher class Freightliner interior is the same as the cheaper interior in Peterbilts.
