Geothermal has a different meaning here in NZ it means using steam out of the ground to power or heat things. Always great videos from this project bro, you and Robert sure work well together. Safe travels y'all.
@srp0198312 сағат бұрын
It does in the U.K. as well - the sort of energy that comes from a region with volcanic activity. I think that what they’re calling geothermal is actually a ground-source heat pump system, not true geothermal.

Good morning Chris and Geoff😊😮
@mr.shannon6137Күн бұрын
Running the geothermal under the pond is genius. During the summer he will easily be able to keep his fortress nice and cool using a solar water pump with minimal use of heat pump mainly to remove humidity. It will be cheap to heat in the winter as well. It could probably all be done with a good solar, and power storage system for most of the year. Pretty smart.
@njonebale7889Күн бұрын
It’s doesn’t work too well…it’ll offset some energy cost at best…geothermal never really proved it’s worth
@scotthayes1804Күн бұрын
Geothermal works great if it's installed exactly to design specifications but therein lies the problem. Most installers are doing it on a bid and don't take the necessary steps to make the installation perfect. And once it's in incorrectly and covered up and doesn't meet expectations then some blame the design. As with most jobs by subs that don't understand physics or thermal transfer or so on you have to stay right in the middle of them an that becomes a contentious situation
@kenore400311 сағат бұрын
Geothermal needs a good deal of difference in temps to work well. Case in point Iceland runs solely on geothermal but they do have unlimited heat to work with.
@mr.shannon613710 сағат бұрын
Kenore I respectfully disagree. Iceland generates power from geothermal hotspots which are plentiful there. To generate electricity a large amount of energy is required (heat) which is then transferred to electricity (conservation of energy). That is completely different from home geothermal heating and cooling requirements. Where as only an extremely small amount of energy transfer is required to greatly increase efficiency of the existing heating and cooling system. If its 100 degrees farenheit outside. You only need to transfer an extremely small amount of energy to get the temperature to a comfortable level. Home geothermal systems if done correctly are extremely good at that. It will require a small amount of electricity but only a fraction of what a conventional HVAC system would require to do the same amount of work. If its 100F outside the ground is a constant 70F, a water pump, heat exchanger, a heat pump and a few other odds and ends are all that is required is to transfer the ground temp to the house. The heat pump/AC hardly ever runs. If the outside temp is 20F the ground will still be about 70F same thing applies, you will seldom need to add heat to the loop. This is only an arbitrary example based on a best case scenario to explain my point.
