One question: rather than cut a hole for the weed block, can you do it in this order: 1) dig the trench 2) install weed block from the house to the fence, pushing it into the trench 3) install geo-fabric (on top of weed block) 4) install pipe 5) fill trench with rock 6) sew up geo-fabric 7) add top gravel over everything

There are many types of geo fabrics on the market. So if you use the wrong one then yes you will have problems. To build a French drain correctly you need a good non woven geo textile fabric that surrounds the stone and the pipe. The fabric is a soil separator so that it does not mix with the stone over time and clog the voids in the stone making it where water cannot pass through to your perforated pipe. Geo fabric is used in road construction and by developers for drainage applications all over the USA and the world. If geo fabric didn’t work these municipalities would not use it. But like I said earlier you have to use the correct one for the application.
