Make the hole like you did. Then line it with the fabric. Invert the pipe and put the rocks in between the pipe and the fabric. Do not wrap the pipe and put the rocks outside. The soil will infiltrate the rocks. By putting the rocks in the fabric you leave the voids in the rock open.

I think what a lot of contractors don't understand is gnat engineers are often tasked with fixing mistakes, so we see all kinds of things contractors say is "just as good" or "it'll be fine, that doesn't actually matter". I don't do as much with earthwork, but I can tell you the absolute most common root cause of failure for concrete culverts and bridges is improper rebar cover, probably because it wasn't secured properly. Guess how many times I've seen a contractor "wing it" and try to pull wire mesh up into a slab? Or they don't use chairs or any number of things to do it the right way. Sure, there bridge ends up failing 20-30 years early, but hey they saved a couple hours of labor.

And how long til the filter gets stopped up and has to be replaced? Dont get me wrong, obviously dont want the drain getting stopped up either, so a filter that wont stop up as fast as the drain would without a filter does seem like a good idea. I'm just curious how long it will last. Also, does the type of filter you need to use vary by soil typee? And how can i identify what type of filter i need from all the various filter and other fabrics out there?
@StormWaterDrainageSolutions15 сағат бұрын
@@spudgamer6049 Good question, once the grass roots take hold and root into the top of the fabric it will last forever. Water travels down the roots through capillary action.

I would like to know How this is a French Drain? I get the run, run of slope etc drainage field... But the central requirement of a French drain is a deep holding area before the drainage. French Drains are by design to prevent flooding of other areas due to volume or other impediment. Hell I built french drains more than 50 years ago... The largest was 1/2 the size of a decent pool filled with gradually decreasing sized boulders until matt and sand just under the turf. Like most French drains they are used when any other choice is prohibited by cost or viability of constructing. Effectively they are a subsurface holding area - not a method of piping.

I'm using 4" triple wall with holes in the bottom. Do I still need to glue and tape it? It's for ground water and some gutters.I'm trying to control all the runoff from my neighbor. It's going to be almost 170 feet and will have the non-woven cloth and drain rock around it. It will end in a dry-well that has 4 55 gallon plastic drums with slits in the sides and surrounded by drain rock. I figured that would give me 220 gallons of storage until it gets absorbed.

Nice plumbing yeah people have no idea what a pain it is to get everything right. No clean outs at downspout tho? Also I think saying that a max of 3-4 downspouts for a 4” pipe is vague. The runoff surface area is what matters. 2,500 square feet is generally my limit with good fall (a full bubble) before I recommend to a client to step up to 6”

There’s no concern over that water level in the retention pond rising?
@ProjectSimusFlorida6 күн бұрын
That’s what the retention ponds are dug for so all the runoff from all these houses go into it. They plan the size of the pond per home size and area due to the wetland surrounding, etc. but as always with humans there’s error and he said water is still gonna sit in certain areas, but the retention ponds are made to handle it.
@jstnnnnn6 күн бұрын
@@ProjectSimusFlorida Right. I get that it’s hard to slope a run of pipe that long and have the outlet right where you want it, but it looked like there’s a chance the pond could rise into the outlet of the drainage system over the hurricane season.
@SteveSherman-jp1dz5 күн бұрын
@@jstnnnnn If the water level is above the drainage pipe during a hurricane, that is the least of your problems and nothing you can really do about it. This is what happens when humans decide to reclaim nature's method of dealing with this issue because they want to live in places they shouldn't. But don't worry, our federal tax dollars will bail them out when the inevitable happens over and over again.

The 1 st time they need to come and deal with the sprinkler or any of the other lines you incorporated into the drain system your drain system goes bust. No way any cable, internet, or electrical service worker gives 2 damns about replacing stuff right, or checking level after they’ve inevitably had to dig that all up. I realize there is limited space, but you could have had the owner get the installers back out there and found a more practical solution that alleviates future issues.

Maybe they should had spoke to the neighbour about connecting his spouting to the system for everyones home. Great work though.
