Hi Alexa. thanks for the great lesson. but I need to know what are all the verbs that take reflexive pronoun? can we know them please? or when do we use reflexive pronoun? for example: we say Je mange, why don't we say: Je me mange? that's a bit confusing to me. thank you so much for clarifying this.
@sarbjeetgill4077
@sarbjeetgill4077 2 жыл бұрын
Reflexive pronoun are usually written before verb when prepositional phrases are written. I come to know about this by watching 120 grammar rules.
@lisahinton9682
@lisahinton9682 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate this, Alexa, but I wish you would have explained how to determine if you use the reflexive verb form or not. For example, obviously if you are washing yourself, you're doing it to yourself, so you'd use the reflexive form. And if you're washing the dishes, you're doing the washing to something else, so you'd not use the reflexive form. But it's not always obvious whether to use the reflexive form. (One that comes to mind is "to hurry" does use the reflexive form but "to dance" does not. This makes little sense to me and no-one who does these tutorial videos on KZbin has ever included how, exactly, to determine whether to use the reflexive form or not. Anyway, I appreciate you and you've taught me a lot!)

Thank you so much for the video but can someone please explain me the logic behind writing these phrases "Je te propose" (I propose you) or "Je t'invite"(I invite you) and "Tu me manques tellement" (I miss you so much). Can't they be written in any other way. It appears quite confusing to me. I have my exam coming up in like 3 days. I would really appreciate and be thankful to you if you could kindly help me understand this concept. Merci beaucoup!

Thanks Alexa, this was one of the subjects I wanted to learn! One question about the song "Je te pardonne": which grammatical class does "TE" belong to? Because it doesn't count as a reflexive verb, right?
@LandofWater
@LandofWater 4 жыл бұрын
Technically it isn't a reflexive but the pronoun "te" means "you". So the sentence "Je te pardonne" means "I pardon you" or "I forgive you"

It's a direct object

Eric correct but more precisely it’s an indirect object in that sentence because of the verb “pardonner” car on pardonne quelque chose à quelqu’un.

So if the subject is the direct object then why is "I am washing my hair" (Je me lave les cheveux) reflexive in french? Why not "Je lave mes cheveux"? "Je me lave les cheveux" translates in my mind " I am washing myself the hair". And how would "I am having my hair washed by my sister" be translated? Reverso (which is not always correct) has it as "Je me fais laver les cheveux par ma sœur". This whole reflexive thing has me thoroughly confused!! Can anyone help?
