Even at start of WW2 magnetic torpedoes were designed not to hit the ship but explode when directly underneath as shown here with devastaing effect. Designed and doing are however different things. Both US and German manetic torpedoes remained worse than useless for at least half the war.

@@tomhenry897 Germany quickly started on sorting their issues within a few days after their failing in the Norwegian campaign and some fixes were quickly applied. They were somewhat unlucky as earth's magnetic field is less horizontal in such Northern latitudes. However, I am sure I have read somewhere that it took several years till the Germans were finally happy with their torpedo. Conversely, the US response of BuOrd was appalling. "Unauthorised history of the Pacific War" has a good episode on the Torpedo issue. (For deliberate falsehoods in action today see the Naval Submarine League's whitewash: "THE GREAT TORPEDO SCANDAL 1941-43".)

La torpille équipe aussi bien les sna de classe rubis mais également suffren.. La marine n'a pas précisé quel sna a effectué le tir car si elle équipe uniquement les suffren sachant que y'en a qu'un seul en service actuellement, ça aurait pas était compliqué de savoir lequel a tiré 😉 les sna classe rubis ont encore quelques années devant eux !

Great torpedo .... wonder how much the taxpayer was ripped off for it over the real cost price ? Box of titanium bolts $200 to the public - box of titanium bolts for the military $80,000 .... if worried about the quality - test each bolt and use a thicker one ... the waste/ripoffs are unacceptable and nobody asks any questions like they are silenced by a machine that exists to provide as little as possible for as much money as possible ....
