Voters in France came out in large numbers to cast their ballots in the first snap elections called by a president since 1997, showing that the “French people realise that this is an election that will decide who will hold the power for at least the next 3 years”, said Damien Lecompte, political scientist researcher at Paris Pantheon Sorbonne University.
