I don't usually comment but I had to here my friend. There are dozens of FS tutorials out there but yours is by far the simplest way to get it accomplished, the others over complicate the process way too much. Congratulations and thank you very much!

Many of You probably heard about this great retouch technique and today I am going to show You everything to make Your retouch work much easier! Frequency separation makes your work in photoshop much faster and easier. It allows you to separate the texture of an image from the color. So you can retouch all blemishes from your portrait easily without loosing an original texture of the image! After this retouch skin in the portrait will be smooth, clean and natural as never!

When I choose the "low" layer at 4:45, instead of seeing a ghostly face I only get a blank, grey screen. Then when I try to apply the Gaussian blurs with all three layers visible and the white box around the low layer, no matter where I set the blur level there is no difference to the skin at all. Are these two things related? What am I doing wrong?

Hi there, this video is very helpful however, when I select the skin for feather, and then filter and gaussian blur, it turns the skin gray and not 'soft clean skin'. I am selecting the 'low' layer, and everything is the same as your steps. Please help. Thanks.
@bombatpam9 жыл бұрын
+Sylvia Nguyen Hey Silvia, You might be pulling up gaussian blur too much. It has to be always adjusted to the size of the image. Otherwise when You're going to pull up the gaussian too much it's going to turn greyish.

Hi, please could you help me solve a problem? I'm trying to follow your tutorial to edit a photo with Photoshop CS6 unfortunately happens that when I do IMAGE_APPLY IMAGE... the layer HIGH becomes black, and in the window I not have the option FREQUENCY.jpg bat the name of the image. What happens??? Thank you and congratulations for the tutorial.
@bombatpam9 жыл бұрын
Antonio Ivagnes Hi my firend. In the source You should not have name frequency.jpg but the name of Your image. If You do everything like me it all should be alright. Please check if You have 8 bit or 16 bit image. If it's 16 bit the scale will be 2 and offset 0. Then istead of subtract will be add and check invert box ;)

Good video for learning! Thanks for sharing with us your Technique! But maybe for actual photo retouching it's too overdone, shadows were lost from the image and maybe smaller edits would have a better effect in keeping character of her face without losing dimension

I think this method is very good and time saving, but when you work with the LF - it is good to maybe reduce the opacity of the LF layer, since smoothering it out with Gaussian blur, it looks too smooth.

Am i the only one doing this as you explain? when you do the apply image, by choosing "low" layer first and selecting "subtract" then choosing "high" layer and selecting subtract (without clicking on OK), in fact you didn't apply anything to the "low" layer. after that when you apply effect "linear light" to the "high" image what I see is the blur image of "low" layer but what you see is the clean original image!!!! so when I do selecting and making blur the structure disappears and all I see is a blur image. can you explain what I did wrong? I watched and redo this 3 times, same result.

You just need to now use the 'normal' pain brush on the low freq layer and paint back in the colours as its looks too flat here. Its a great effect though, but really needs the colours and contours painting back in... I think
