*For those who want to review the stages in a short time, I wrote the steps below* 1-) Remove Blemishes Create new layer , fix blemishes with regular healing brush, ( Pro Tip : Adjustment layer Black/White with lowered reds can help you spot the blemishes ) 2-) Make 2 copies of it , Ctrl/cmd + J one for color , one for texture. 3-) Add Gausian Blur to Color Layer 4-) Select texture layer , go to image and apply image .Substract Color layer with scale:2 and offset:128 , Change blend mode from normal to lineer light 5-)Put texture and color layers into a group with cntr/cmd +G 6-) Paint on a new layer between color and texture layers with a soft brush, take samples from the models face . Turning texture layer invisible and looking without zoom may help you decide. (Make different layers for different parts .You can play with oppacity afterwards) 7-)Apply Dodge and Burn with creating a colors adjustment level and painting with white after masking it all black Extra* 8-) Liquify : create a merged layer by pressing shift +ctrl/cmd + alt/opt + e . convert it into smart filter. Apply filter liquify

Your approach to instruction is far beyond that of any other channel I've found so far. You made this video that's showing a complex and professional level of retouching and you take the time to explain the basics as you go. You have managed to make a tutorial that is easy for beginners to follow and yet not boring for pros. Most of the other guys would be like "This is an advanced tutorial, I'm not going to explain the basics as I go, try to keep up." I can't express enough how grateful I am for channels like this. You deserve way more than 240k subscribers! This is quality stuff man! Keep it coming!

What about the spot healing tool in Camera Raw? To me, it's very handy and I usually use it to the possible extent before I open the image in Photoshop. I remove major blemishes with it upfront and then go for details with healing brush or patch tool in Photoshop. By the way, this has become my favourite PS tutorial channel recently. Unlike some other instructors, you do not skip intermediate steps and clearly explain (and even repeat) how to. Thanks a lot.

I love your tutorials but I have an issue. Not an issue with your tutorial specifically, but with every youtuber that has done this same or similar tutorial and has used some already near perfect head shot of some girl that looks great as is. If there’s a scarcity of imperfect headshots on all the stock photo sites I’ve got plenty of hideous head shots of myself that I can send in that would make for a far more challenging tutorial. Moreover, it would be more likely to wow the masses if the transformation was much more shocking than starting with perfection to begin with. Because I like you and I love your tutorials, I am willing to send you the best of my worst, free of charge. It has everything a photo editor dreams of when wanting a challenge; under eye bags, skin discoloration, black heads, scarring and more. If you could pull it off, now that would be a tutorial to watch!

Hi Michele, one way to open the image in Photoshop and then make a duplicate layer of the image. Take the healing brush and just go crazy getting rid of the wrinkles and all blemishes. Then turn off that layer and go back to the original image layer. Go to channels and control/option click on the RED channel. This make a selection of the red channel. Go back to the layers channel, turn on your corrected layer and click on the layer mask. The images is corrected and you can do it all over again if you need more corrections.

You're amazing as a teacher and really a master in arts, it remembers me back in 2003 when I worked on a photo studio for a fine art photographer, and we did crazy stuff all the time! like, putting a complete good face or head of a bad background shoot, to another almost exactly same background (sessions of thousands of shoots), but a good one. So we replaced the face, sometimes a leg that wasn't worth it, or a hand, or just replacing a mouth, eye, lips, etc, etc , etc... We changed the whole sky, removed trees, or constructed a beautiful sunset with weird Levels masking. Sometimes erased the whole floor (a wood and ugly broken scenario) just painting or constructing a new one from scratch, and let it a smooth floor. Crazy and consuming work. Good to know that Ps now has better and creative tools added. I'm now into audio engineering (I'm a musician after all), editing, mixing & mastering, restoration and I have to say, that Audio Engineering is so similar to Visual, regarding digital editing. The bright & dark concepts of depth on Audio, is in Equalization, but adding Dimension to a sound with reverberances gives a 3D feeling, that I've found similar working with layers in Ps. Many concepts from audio can be used to visuals and viceversa! I learn new approaches to process audio from Ps tutorials...not only the digital trickeries and shortcuts, but HOW TO deliver the artistic message. This is so inspiring. I never went to a school, or have studied art, I just love to process audio & images and your channel inspired me to freelancing in retouching again because I had new skills, learning from you, thank you so much from Argentina!

This is a fantastic tutorial but I hate plastic looking models. Yes, I agree, if you're going to be in some fashion magazine and that's the standard, it's important. But personally, I don't want any of my models looking like this. I do like smooth skin, but remember that it's our imperfections that make us unique. This is simply painting on new skin, as you said, which I think takes away from the model's individuality. Nevertheless, great video.

I really like your instructional videos and I profit a lot from them. Just one point of criticism: The result might be interesting for advertising folks, but for artists it’s hard to overlook the puppet look of the final image. Look at this nose! Shiftet to the left side (from the viewer’s perspective). And how do you deal with that overdone make up on the lips? Besides, I’ve got the feeling that we are shifting back to the dark ages of the wax skin era again. Don’t get me wrong: I am looking forward to follow this channel, because I like it, but sometimes it might be necessary to adjust the perspective and be strict with the results. That doesn’t mean that I don’t like the contents, on the contrary so! As I said: very happy to learn from you.

His point was how to adjust, in detail, to your personal tastes. He didn't mention anything about his final result. It wasn't about an ending. It was about the flexibility of this process to suite your particular wishes for a final look..

The professionals use the Darkness+Lightness technique when retouching skin. The technique used in this video is destructive and makes the image look fake even when done more carefully. Photographers and retouchers can spot the difference between proper high-end images and images which look just look fake.

@@AlexKnappa90 If you want natural looking skin, don't even edit. That's how you're going to get the most natural looking skin. This guy's tutorials are literally high end - good quality stuff that big companies like Calvin Klien or Hugo Boss use for their models.

@@AlexKnappa90 that depends on what's your purpose in many cases like advertisings of cosmetic brands you need to do this because the brands want to show that their model is perfect thanks to their product, obviously you may not use it for your Instagram next post but it's very useful for many situations.

it's the same technique as for the normal D&B, but the micro is for the small parts of the skin, so you match the skin color with only micro D&B.

I agree this technique is not for professional use. There is no shortcut for dodge and burn if you want to make it like a pro and don't change and polish too much the model. With this technique the guy already changed the skin too much, too polished and i think working on a blurred image is not good for your eyes :)

Professionals do not work like that! Frequency separation is never used in professional beauty images, because it just looks awful filtered! Micro D&B is the only solution for high-end retouch!

It’s not really blind criticism though, is it? I could see your point if the technique he’s showing actually looked good, but he’s teaching a bad habit under the guise of ‘High-End Skin Retouching’; a habit that some people then find hard to break, even after years of retouching. As with most worthwhile techniques, Dodging & Burning does take time to master, but you can pick up the principles in next to no time. Why would you point someone down a blind alley instead?
