Thank you! 96 degrees today and I was looking for something in addition to our frozen treat blocks. Our 6 week old chicks seem okay sitting in the shade, but there was a little panting happening so we gave electrolytes and a frozen treat block that we made with cut up zucchini inside. In our climate it's usually 85-100 degrees for July and August, and I hadn't considered how difficult it would be to keep our chickens cool. But it's an AG community and almost everyone has chickens, so I guess it's doable...just going to require some forethought so I'm not needing to make blocks of ice every evening, for the next day.

Electrolytes make a big difference. We had chickens in Virginia and keeping them cool was challenging, but we managed.

Thank you - I was wondering about using electrolytes for a very poorly hen. Off to the kitchen pronto!

Is this electrolyte recipe for chickens also fine for people to drink?

It is yes. Or dogs..

I got confused. How much of each of the ingredients to a gallon of water to make the electrolytes?
I tried the nesting pads and the chickens still scratched it out of the nesting box. I don't know what to try now. Oddly enough other chickens we've had never scratched out the straw or shavings we put in.

Chickens hate change. Give them time to get used to them.
