2:56 I think they’re talking about a uterine rupture, which is basically: when there’s a lot of pressure caused by the baby inside your uterus, one of the walls can… well… rupture. It’s quite rare, 1 every 100 pregnancies may experience it. With modern medicine it usually can be treated, but not always, the bad cases can lead to becoming unable to get pregnant again, and the worst case scenario is the death of the baby, the mother, or both. I imagine that Ah-Duo might have experienced that due to a prolonged childbirth, since Luomen was forced to tend to the empress’ childbirth, and with the limited treatment of the time, I can imagine she got one of the less desirable outcomes.

With Luomens skill it can be inferred there were complications on top of prolonged pregnancy. Not being able to give birth and requiring doctor in the first place tells there was something horribly wrong like a Breech birth. And Luomen was 100% able to do cesarean so that would indeed imply uterine rupture from prolonged labor. All we know for certain is that "her uterus had to be removed to save the life of both the child and the mother.".

That isn't what she was saying. She said that honey could contain toxins from flowers like the ones growing everywhere in the palace, but FENGMING KNEW THAT. The subtext that is missing here is that as owners of a high-class apiary, Fengming's family would have known how to select for and produce safe honey. In historical imperial China, luxury apiaries were set up within huge walled gardens owned by the nobility where they had total control of what flowers were made available for the bees. Fengming's family would have been able to manage that. What Fengming didn't know about was botulism. Maomao just doesn't know germ theory so she herself couldn't explain why botulism happens, but Lishu's case is likely an example of it.

This is my opinion but I think there's 2 reason why she is just like that: 1. Grow up with courtesans in the brothel is not ideal condition to raise a child. Courtesans are not known to be motherly figure (but not all) and are busy entertaining customers at night and sleep at day. Another hint is Maomao called them Older Sisters. Kinda SPOILER, but I think still relevant 2. By nature/came from her biological parents. Both her Father and Mother have eccentric personalities and is like the combination of Maomao's personality. Cold, Intelligent, doesn't care what others think, sometimes lacking of empathy and always keep to themselves ex. we always found her thinking on herself or her thought bubble.

I think that Mao Mao has a very jaded perspective. Her life growing up in brothels and a rough area of town have given her little faith in love or permanence. She is very aware how disposable she is and the manipulative games people often play. I think that when it comes down to it she cares deeply. She would absolutely do a lot for her father and her 'older sisters' at the brothel but will deny that when asked.

If Maomao's theory is true, that means Jinshi is the Emperor's brother who is actually his son. Of course, the possibility of Jinshi being the Imperial Brother is brushed off by her. He continued to be a beautiful eunuch in her mind 😂 I love how we agree with Maomao's theory because we don't deny the hints we've seen, unlike Maomao, lol. That being said, Jinshi was crying. I wonder why. Maybe he was saddened by Aaduo's departure, or maybe he was upset he couldn't have a proper talk with her on her last night in the rear palace. Even if the mother who raised him is Empress Dowager, he must've felt a familial connection with Aaduo.

If the theory is right then jinshi is the emperor and ah duo son but he isn’t the emperor brother. The fact that jinshi was raised by the empress dowager (emperor’s mom) and the old emperor (actual emperor’s father) doesn’t make him the emperor brother. We could only say that jinshi is like an adopted son for empress dowager and old emperor which would put jinshi in the position of being actual emperor adopted brother but that’s not really it so....

We've seen the hints back in the Garden Party, like how he and the Imperial Brother is never at the same place at the same time, Jinshi appeared behind the Imperial Brother's seat with disheveled clothes, and Jinshi's new hairpin is using the same material as Empress Dowager's crown. If people know Jinshi is Aaduo's son, the Gyokuyo-Lihua's rivalry would never happen as people would've pushed the Emperor to take Aaduo as his Empress, and they wouldn't fuss over Lihua's newborn son as the crown prince either. Assuming it's true that Jinshi is actually the Crown Prince, it's not clear whether he is aware of the fact or not. Plus, we still don't know how many people is aware about the swap, as we don't know the real circumstances behind it; maybe the only one who knew is only a handful of adults like Aaduo, Luomen, and the Emperor. The masquerade will only become a problem if the emps sires a second son. At that point he would have to reveal Jinshi's true identity to keep him as crown prince. However, ironically if the emps sires more than one new son, Jinshi would still keep his status as crown prince until his "nephews" grow up because traditionally the emps would be required to choose a crown prince from his litter after evaluating them, so they can't be babies for this to happen. In Confucian cultures it is expected that inheritance of the empire would be based on merit, not birth order.

The fact that the Kids were swap apparently didn't come to light until after the Emperor's Brother had died under Fengming's care. So, those who knew the truth kept quite but Maomao's Father was punished (by removal of a knee-joint and expulsion) for not noticing the swap early. Now, the question is, who knew the truth about the swap (other than obviously Ah-Duo) if Maomao's theory is correct. It's possible that the Empress Dowager atleast knew the truth since start, since it was her Son who got swapped.

Before you celebrate. Keep in mind that the incident happened 17 years ago. Jinshi is not one of those babies. Jinshi is older. But we do know someone who is 17 years old. As for Jinshi, I think he is Ah Duo's son but from an earlier birth. Remember she and the prince were best friends, the prince wanted Ah Duo to be his only wife and does not want any concubine (Maomao stated that previous episode). Ah Duo said her son left her, I think she was referring to Jinshi, not the baby from 17 years ago. So, Ah Duo has remained in the rear palace just to be close to Jinshi. That is my speculation so far. This has nothing to do with the two babies being swapped, that is a different case which might involve Maomao, not Jinshi.

Actually in some countries they count age differently, especially some Asian countries. It takes 9-10 months for a baby to be created, but that counts as an age for them too. Which means Jinshi should be 18 (age counting standards)

My guess is that Maomao is the former emperor's daughter, switched with Ah-Duo baby, Jinshi, since boys are more valuable to emperors. So he grew up as a prince, yet she was spoon fed honey until it almost killed her, but then she was secretly saved by her father, Luomen. I think that some people know that the babies were switched, likely both the emperor and Ah-Duo know the truth, in fact Ah-Duo probably did it herself. I think the real reveal will be that will be that Maomao is the daughter of the emperor, or at least the daughter of one of his concubines, and that Luomen saved the dead baby and hid her away. P.S. - I went to the Wiki to get the names right, but then I read some of other lore pages and spoiled some stuff for myself, but I didn't change anything I wrote above.

Cmiiw from what I gather and if I remember the manga correctly, AhDuo swapped her baby with empress dowager’s not long after birth because she realized with her position & birth experience, her baby would not get prioritized by the palace. Maybe spoilers??? Idk but just in case . . . . . The infants were both at least a few months old - old enough that the mothers (especially Ah-Duo, with her complicated birth) were recovered enough and the babies grown enough to be allowed outside around other people. I'd wager the babies were /at least/ three months old or a bit older if Ah-Duo walking around fine and visiting the Empress Dowager is anything to go by. Ah-Duo may have very strong maternal instincts, but she also definitely had some time with the swapped child to bond to him enough to view him as her own.

The explanation of this plot was quite rushed but I think basically, Ah Duos son (hinted as Jinshi) was swapped with the Empress Dowagers because she realized they’d have better treatment. Feng Ming accidentally fed the baby (not Jinshi) honey, leading to its death. Mao Mao’s father was blamed and punished / kicked out of the palace. Fengming and the lady in waiting realized truth might come out because Lishu almost died as a child due to honey danger and is super clingy to Ah Duo, so Fengming and the court maiden tried to poison Lishu. They failed so the court maiden committed suicide with Fengming’s help. Mao Mao pointed this out and let Fengming turn herself in for attempted Lishu poisoning with the guise that it’s to protect Ah Duos position (to hide the fact that she caused the baby’s death many years ago). Jinshi is sad for reasons known only to him. Ah Duo formally leaves the rear palace making room for a new concubine to come in. Now that Fengming is gone, there’s also collateral punishment for her family and affiliates.

🎉manga Spoiler🎉... Jinshi is actually the prince not adou's son, jinshi is actually feeling guilty about andou's situation. He thought that bc of himself being born to the empress dowager he was put in priority instead of the other baby and as he got older he realized the politics of the palace was Bullshit... in the manga its later confirmed that the emperor it the older brother😅

light novel spoiler! jinshi is actually Ah duo's son, which means the oldest son of the emperor and the crown prince. He himself doesn't know that. Only the emperor, Ah duo and Empress Dowger knows the truth. In fact, Ah duo and Empress Dowger willingly swapped their babies.
