Cornell's Gabe Dean made his breakout college performance in the finals of the 2014 Southern Scuffle when he defeated Penn State's 2x NCAA Champion Ed Ruth. The two would go on to combine for 5 total individual NCAA titles.

Gabe Dean only lost to Bo Nickal by one point in the national title match. Being able to wrestle competitively with Ed Ruth and Bo Nickal puts a guy in a special class.

GD was a guy who always puzzled me. Like in this match, he definitely looked like he wanted to prove a point. His skill, effort, drive and determination were there throughout the match. Then he gets beat, by a less skilled wrestler and almost looked bored during the match. Up and down for the season why? I truly thought when at his best or just ready to win he could have won 4 NCAA titles.

Ruth was so unbelievably good if he did not go the mma route certainly may have become a world champ, it shows how good Dean was also.
