I told them, "that's my resume with his name on it, we got the same resume". Case closed. My homie understood.... but rather than give me the raise (since I had seniority and the same resume) they didn't give either the job. I hear you about spending with my people but most times I do I get burnt. Tried to give this brother some work in my crib. Wifey was babysitting his little girl while the dude was here working and shit. The brother charged me 3k for the work and I paid about 2k for materials totally fucked the job up. Tried to give him a chance to come back and make it right with me before I had to get the white folks involved. Dude never showed back up on the day we had scheduled. Getting a white contractor now. But that is extremely true about the packaging and the marketing as well as the presentation. There have been a lot of authors and other creatives that have went by aliases to circumvent and overcome stereotypes and social barriers. It’s great if you can gather an audience that heaters around you as a person as a personality or as a public figure or you go for something more elemental and vague and ditch the personal identity altogether.
