Fretboard Bites: How to play tremolo evenly, smoothly and beautifully. This video, a little longer than the other Fretboard Bites, is packed with ideas for practice. I believe that if we develop good right hand finger independence, we can develop great control that not only helps the performance of tremolo repertoire, but other pieces as well. With good control of the right hand fingers, we can phrase however we wish and it feels reassuring to be able to express musical ideas with reliability of tone and sound.

Thankyou for your very informative and excellent lesson. I can do tremolos, but need to work on them more. Your tips were invaluable. When my left hand catches up with the right hand I will remember this lesson. Keep up the lessons, they are appreciated.

Would love to hear about your journey with the classical guitar....where you studied ...your favorite composers ? Also....what or who is the builder of your guitar ? Looking foreward to more future videos. Your thoughtful instruction reminds me of David Russell ...a kind and gentle spirit. Thank you Fiona ☺

Hi Frank - that's wonderful that sometimes I can remind you of David Russell! He was my hero for at least a 15 year period. He was amazing at teaching - always meeting players at their own level and leaving them with things to improve upon, whilst being motivated to do so. A wonderful man. Also - he was the person who suggested to me, at 13 years old, to start using nails to play! He drew a huge picture of a finger nail on a whiteboard and inspired me to begin the journey of growing nails and exploring different shapes... The guitar ? - I currently give concerts on a Philip Woodfield guitar, but find with my basic recording set-up, that the Christopher Dean comes across in the recordings better for most pieces. I actually love them both. So lucky to have the choice!

Hello. Could you please do a video of how precisely you file your nails? Perhaps a surefire way to ensure same angle filing every time? I tried putting a piece of sandpaper wrapped around a string and in standard playing position, pluck the strings to shape the nail. What type of pluck is guaranteed a perfect shape when filing? Apoyando and Tirando plucks gives me an inconsistent file shapes. And doing it by "feel" or sight gives by far the worst consistency when filing. I can never get comfortable with a playing position therefore stunting my progress as my nail shape is my supreme limiting factor when practicing.

Hmm - I'm a bit late with this reply - I hope you have got further down the line with working out a shape for your nails. It is something we get used to - but also nails change over time and we have to adapt to ever changing circumstances! Filing nails is an endless pursuit! Goodluck!

Hi Fiona, do you need to keep finger nails to do tremolo, if so, can you please do a video on finger nails,
@fionaharrison7132
@fionaharrison7132 2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question Don. My fingernails are generally very short. I do also like just a touch of vaseline on the fingertips if the room/ atmosphere is cold and my fingers haven't warmed up. I think also, that I find tremolo easier on medium tension strings. High tension strings seem quite a lot more effort! Sometimes the practice doesn't;t go amazingly well and then maybe later in the day I play on a very cheap Yamaha guitar - and it all sounds great! I'll bear in mind another video on nails...

Hello Ma'am, My name is Snehasish, I am from India. I just have started practicing classical guitar. I am following the book of Sagreras. I am facing some problems which I think is because of my middle finger of the right hand. I had an accident several years ago and my m finger got damaged a little bit. It has become the size of my thumb and now it is I think not possible for me to grow nails evenly so I am practicing without nails. Is it possible to master every technique in the classical guitar like tremolo and all? Please give me some practice advice about this. Thank you.

I'm not sure that any of us can master every technique of the classical guitar! However... if you enjoy what you do, keep practising ! You'll find a way around your limitations - just like Django Reinhardt...
