I have had a Malmsteen Stratocaster for about a month now. I absolutely love it. Biggest difference is for lead work, vibrato and bends. A scalloped neck is kind of like power steering for guitars. Kind of... When I go back to my Les Paul, Suhr Modern, Explorer, etc., I feel like the fretboard is in the way and prevents me from gripping the strings as well as on the Malmsteen. Perhaps not for everyone, but everyone should try one if they can.

I'd never heard of this guy. I really like him. He convinces in a lot of styles, changing at the drop of a hat. You have to be seriously talented to do that. The only really big rock star, who comes to my mind, that can do that kind of thing with such facility, who is famous, is Steve Stevens. Most of the other people can only do their own thing convincingly.

@ericou812 so that it will produce a note one semitone higher than the previous fret, when fretted (meaning pushing the string down so the vibrating length is shortened to the metal fret). Using one hand to fret a note, and the other to pluck the string, a guitarist can produce many different notes, at the same time (in chords) or seperately. Good question ;D
