I found an all-original 7002-700J in the US a few months ago. The minute and hour hands were badly corroded, the bezel o ring and second hand were missing, and the movement was running so poorly that it was out of the Weishi 1000's detectable range. I serviced it myself, and the only aftermarket part I used to fix it was a balance assembly off of a NH36.

I took a PADI open water dive class in Okinawa in 1992. I wore that Seiko watch. No issues. Most recreational divers won’t got more than 70 feet (21 meters). Most will never go past 100 feet. Great watch. I love it

My earliest memories of my Dad all include a Seiko dive watch on his wrist. I don't know what happened to his first one. But he did give me his 7002-7000 and his SNE022 a few months back. And Im so glad i found your videos. My 7002 has a remarkably similar backstory. It was bought brand new, by my dad, while he was stationed in Subic Bay, Phillippines. He actually bought it from one of my uncles who owned a jewelry store in Olongapo. I was pretty stoked to notice its tan lume after hearing you mention it. I always assumed it was just faded. And for a final coincidence, Dad put the 7002 into a drawer when the seconds hand fell off the post and he bought the SNE022. So i too am blessed with an original unmolested Filipino survivor watch. Hopefully your follow up vids will enable me to get that hand back on. Thanks for the great content!!

Great vidéo, thanks! Now i get that my 150m 7002 dated from 1996 is legit! just a late model one. I'm so glad i purchased it months ago, before your video! I already got mine because you praised the movement, but now, following this vid, good ones are gonna be in demand. What a great watch, mine is rough but works perfectly and is so, so accurate. Cheers!

My first watch! My father gave me one (flea market find that ran 5 min fast a day) for school when I was 6-7 years old, but my mom was afraid I'd lose it or something - so my dad took it back and it ended up with one of his friends... I recently picked up one in very nice condition, with the eerie green lume intact, I should get it serviced and resealed - wish you were taking work! Can't wait for the next installment!

I bought my Seiko 7002-7009 A1 scuba watch when I was stationed at Ascension Island in 1984. Still works as well today as when I bought it. Could you give me an idea what this watch is worth now. It is in immaculate condition and I wear it every day.

I"m sure you'll do a great job. I acquired an SKX173 a year back and later realized it shared a lot of the look of the 7002.

Watching your videos, in particular the one on fake dials and handsets for the 6309 and the 7002 actually saved me about 475 CAD. I was just on the cusp of pulling the trigger on a pair of them and just happened to see a video about fake watch dials you posted. Thanks! Dodged a bullet, much appreciated

Another great video SK! I’m not sure about the rest of Europe but the U.K. has marketed Seiko’s in great numbers over the past 40 years and it remains a solid brand. Keep up the good work!

I think the waters have been muddied because there has been a large scale effort on the part of a number of UK based sellers to import Philippines reworks and sell them in the UK as from the UK, to obscure their origin. This was a big problem especially starting around 2010. There were a number of sellers who were doing this - I'd see watches for sale from a particular seller in the Philippines, and then they'd be sold, and three or so weeks later that same watch would be for sale from one of these UK-based sellers. There are some that are still doing this. There's a seller in Bath who is notoriously awful, for example. I won't name him here.
@markcurnow6 жыл бұрын
Apologies SK i wasn’t trying to contradict you, I meant new Seiko’s from AD’s. You are right about watches being moved between the countries and also purporting to be from the UK when they are in actual fact sent from the Philippines. I got bit with one and the seller had the cheek to say he had taken the watch on holiday with him and posted it from the Philippines!

Hi Spencer, thank you for sharing your experience with us. I just bought a lot of Seiko 6309 and 7002 watches to learn how to restore/mod. One of them has a 7002-700 (A1) case back and a Seiko Singapore 7002-A movement. So far so good ... but the dial has a day+date window!!! Is it fake? Also the crown is shaking - I can set the date but not the day and when I try to set the time the hands can turn but it is completely random - I am planning to buy a new crown/stem to fix this issue - right or wrong. I really would appreciate if you could advise me. Thanks

Strange idea - that European watch users didn't much use Seikos... I'm 68 and have known about Seikos in the UK for much of my life. Never had one myself - until the last couple of years - as they tended to be priced outside the range I'd be prepared to shell out with my knockabout sporting life. But there were plenty of them around for sure. A simple check just showed me that Seiko opened a subsidiary in the UK in 1971 - one year after it did so in the US. Better to check before making an announcement like that. Swiss watches were far from affordable for the common man here. The UK had its own domestic market too - but I associated Seiko with classy watches far more than junky stuff from the likes of Ingersoll, Timex, Smiths. Timex watches made in Dundee, about 15 miles from me, made watches that typically survived their 12 month warranty by some weeks. Then keeled over and weren't worth the cost of a repair. Had a couple of Ingersolls that lasted a bit better than that but they always came to terminal grief somehow. Then settled on ultra reliable Casio G Shocks for decades. My first Seiko - after I regulated it! - finally kept time inside Rolex standards of +-6sec/day and still does if it's worn. Now I have a bevvy of 7s26 models including a pair of SKX variants plus two 7s36 types. Plus a half dozen of the yellow-bobweighted Invicta divers with hack/wind Seiko NH35a calibres. And all in - the UK!

I was lucky enough to pick up a very nice original example around 10 years ago, even the resist text is still nice and red, as you state folk used to mod this model to death.
@tunokies6 жыл бұрын
Looking forward to the rest. My 7002-7000 is a 150m resist is March 1995 and still with a greeny promethium lume. The timegrapher (in dial up position has it at Zero beat error, 270 Amplitude, +4 seconds and a pretty clear signal. I put some pictures up on my 'Tunokies' instagram in January this year and in fact you 'liked' it Spencer. One question if I may. I have a new set of gaskets (SKX a straight swap I believe) and feel it's a good idea to replace them (done this many times on other watches) but ... if the dial is out of the case for any time, are the markers likely to turn grey? Thanks, Jason.
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch6 жыл бұрын
I think the dial lume does whatever color changes it wants to. I haven't seen a lot of variability from genuine 7002 dials, especially the grey ones. But as I've said many times, there is so much to learn about the 7002s.
