Note to young mechanics and enthusiasts: Learning how to learn is the most important part of doing this stuff. The pictures in the manual help a lot. As do the schematics in the parts book. Read and study over and over. Watch videos, over and over. Practice learning.

The valve train noise gets somewhat louder as that gear fit gets looser :) .

Gary , That one made me chuckle 🤦🏻♂️🤣 I mean why would anyone try to work on a motorcycle or vehicle for that matter without a proper repair manual in the first place because helloooo they pretty much tell ya everything that a person needs to know about the specific equipment their working on. The bad spelling and punctuation in my eyes probably explains the scope of the question to start with lol 😆

Not that I disagree with you on the first bit but drawing conclusions from bad spelling / grammar is not that smart either.

Go easy man the guy obviously isn't a mechanical genius but hey he's trying 🤨 you have to remember we have like three generations of illiterates they need our help and guidance ✌️

Sometimes the truth hurts. Buy the manual, watch a few more videos. Besides Sportsters, watch a few Harley 45 lower end assemblies. Sportster evolved from 45 engines. 45s, then k models (both flatheads), then Overhead valve Sportsters.

I have to admit this rant gave me laugh. But in the guys defence, he probably watches videos and never sees anyone using a manual, thus he has not learned the importance of the manual. But I hope he buys one before he breaks something serious.

heres a dumb question, have you ever seen one of these old ironheads that doesnt leak oil, out of somewhere? if you say yes , i will think you are a big fibber!! lol
@michaeltochterman56102 ай бұрын
They don't all leak oil I've got one the last time it was apart(topend) was 10 years ago no leaks untill recently it needs a primary cover gasket

The Facebook ironhead groups are full of the "mechanically challenged" lots of stupid questions and lots of stupid replies some of the replies baffle me

@@michaeltochterman5610 ive tried many times to fix all the leaks and it stays good for awhile, but then sure enough i start seeing new drips! and it from different places , primary cover, countershaft seal, oil pump gasket, push rod tubes was my fault, i was installing them wrong! ive got 3 sets of cylinders and every one of them needs to be bored! , now i look at differently, i like to see oil under it, that way i know it has oil, its when there are no drips you have to worry! but its fine i love the old girl anyway, my poor mans porche! i look at an ironhead sportrster as a mechanics bike, noone else could keep it running except for us mechanics!

@@michaeltochterman5610 dont be baffled michael, not everyone is as educated in keeping a giant vibrater ,drrip free as you are, what would we do without you? i know right!!!
