So the reason it's easy to forget Double Dragon is post-apocalyptic is because the developers forget half the time, and the times they don't forget, they had to cut the story bits of the game for time or cartridge space. This might be the first time in the entire series that the post-apocalyptic status is actually referred to in-game instead of just within manuals, on the side of arcade cabinets, or in other peripheral material. And in case you're wondering, yes, it's post-apocalyptic because of Fist of the North Star. This entire series is very strongly inspired by Hokuto No Ken, right down to the character designs. The beat-em-up genre basically only exists because of HnK and the film The Warriors.
