As a newbie, I was terrified of fighting games starting out. Then I tried Skullgirls, and I had genuine fun with it. If you're wanting to try to get good at fighting games, Skullgirls has a FANTASTIC tutorial. It doesn't just show you how to do moves, but also when, where, and why. It really puts you into the mind of the expert player and narrows down every part of it bit by bit. I highly recommend this game to newcomers to fighting games.

Skullgirls is simultaneously the most charming, most fun, and least expensive fighting game ever made. It also teaches you how to play any character you want, at a high level. Buy it during the steam summer sale, while its fifty percent off, people. Or PSN, or XBLA. All of them have GGPO, to make online play amazing. (Amazingly better than other fighters.) The Best Friends Zaibatsu should submit a Skullgirls video to Machinima, it needs even more support.

Skullgirls is really fun to watch, but when against players who really know their shit, especially when you come from games like King of Fighters and sort of Street Fighter in some aspects, this is a complete nightmare to play. DuckieMcduck That description is a little (way too) oversimplified. The combos are designed around resets, the neutral game is largely focused on baiting and punishing assist calls and setting up pressure strings. Offense & Defense play a huge tug-of-war in the balance department with Guard Cancels and Lockdown assists. It's certainly a creative and challenging entry in the genre. It might be one of the best ever made, but the competitive community hasn't developed enough yet to see what happens. Also, it has the best UI and menu setup of any fighting game ever.
