To anyone watching this today, get over to LaLaLand Records website. They just released a Limited Edition of 2000 copies Part 8 soundtrack with the full Mollin score, remastered "Darkest Side of the Night", and for the first time ever remastered full versions of "Broken Dream", "Livin' In The City", "J.J.'s Blues", and instrumental "Darkest Side", plus a full liner write-up on the film's soundtrack.

Jason takes Manhattan is my fav Friday the 13th with The Final Chapter right behind it. Part 8 captures what the 80's were & in my opinion the best decade for film ever. Excited for the new box set next month

Part 8 just reminds me of being a 90's kid and watching the old Paramount tapes I had..... nothing more than that. Some trivia: the original part 8 VHS release had trailers for The Hunt For Red October and FM's Shadowzone.

That is really eloquently put, I never looked at it in terms of the end of the Paramount/80's era but it's a perfect way of looking at it, to me I've always loved Friday the 13th Part 8 it was basically the first Friday movie I watched properly and the first film I ever phoned a video shop to save for me in case somebody else rented it. It always reminds me of being younger and funnily enough I was just walking through my local town centre on the way from work and it's hard to explain but on a Sunday morning it's got a really surreal vibe because hardly any shops or open and it always reminds me of when I was a little kid so that linked with thinking of Jason takes Manhattan and the vibe from my home town is almost a perfect combination for me, One horror memory is burned into my memory with this film is, when they get to the docks and decide to split up and I always remember by sister just going "that's really stupid", I'll never forget that as long as I live, funnily enough a couple of days ago I was flicking around the TV channels and saw an antique restoration programme and somebody brought in a brass measurement device and somebody on the show said nowadays that would be all done with computer and I instantly thought of the scene where the ship captain gives the sextant and sat nav to his son it was almost like a shot for shot remake of that part. Darkest Side of the Night is like a perfect song to me glad to see somebody else get good vibes from it, I'm a sucker for end credits too so it's like heaven when that part of the film comes on, also just for my own self gratification I want to show off my geeky knowledge and just say that the dog Toby is really named Ace, I feel like I must be the only person that checks/can remember that from the credits. Great video.

I loved this video brother. I loved everything you spoke about. This film is the end of an era. I was 15 years old when this came out and i saw it in the movie theater summer of 89. I have always loved it and never got the hate for it. I think it’s a lot of fun. Love the characters and the music. I think it’s the perfect cap to the paramount era. So nice to hear that you generations are embracing this film and the franchise. Best always brother. You inspire me.

It's like this: We live in claustrophobia. A land of steel and concrete...trapped by dark waters. There is no escape, nor do we want it. We've come to thrive on it and each other. You can't get the adrenaline pumping without the terror, good people. I love this town.

It’s my favorite Friday. It was the first one I watched. I remember I was maybe 9 and my cousins came over to stay the night and my parents let me rent it. Great times. Also I listen to that song a few times a week.

I’m extremely nostalgic for this movie! It was the first Friday The 13th movie I remember seeing as a kid in the early 90’s on USA UP ALL NIGHT! And while it creeped me out I loved it.Could it have been better? Of course! But for what it is I think it’s a killer flick and one of the more fun movies in the franchise. It does have this over all feeling of this is the end of Jason and the 80’s! Even though the spirit of the 80’s pretty much lasted until around 93 or so.Good episode man! Always enjoy the show 👍🏻

I'm surprised to see someone who shares my exact thoughts on this film, I absolutely love it. Maybe it's the fact that this was the first Friday (or among the first alongside Jason Lives) that I watched when I was just a little kid, but I feel nostalgic about it, I love the 80s in general and this film is one of those that to me, represents everything 80s and the fact that as I watched the rest of the franchise and learned it's history and marathoned it countless times, I started to grow this feeling of Part 8 being like you say, a "Goodbye" from our pal in the hockey mask. Nothing was ever the same after this, and even though I like the movies that came after (excluding Part 9), to me the series ended here. And yes, Darkest Side of the Night is a powerful song, it always brings back memories of being a child blasting it through my computer speakers (same for He's Back and Love Is A Lie).

I feel the same way Christian about the Paramount Friday 8 representing the end of an era! I guess it's probably your musical creativity that hears that through the song. I always have felt emotions through film, that's why I love them so much. Even pictures make me feel emotions, that's why I have retro movie posters. Awesome video!

Always had a soft spot for this. It was the first Friday I ever saw. I must have been 15 or 16 at the time. My parents were a bit stricter than most when it came to horror but I remember seeing it at a friends. We went to the local petrol station where they had a video rental vending machine. They had all the Fridays but there was something about the video cover of 8 we just took to. We ended up renting all of them over the next few months👍🏻👍🏻

The darkest side of the night and the narration over it (before it) really sets the tone for the whole movie. I fucking love jason takes a boat. Growing up it was one of the only movies of the series I had seen in full, yet alone more than once. It has a charm.

It's sort weird for me but I think much like you, it was the end of an era. It sort of serves as closure if never another was made. For me personally, it isn't a well made film but there are individual moments I really like. How Jason is framed in the "disco room" was cool to me. The stab in the eye and sea water that tears down. The guitar to the camera. By the way, that song the rock chic jams...I dig it! It's just pure nostalgia. I remember seeing a commercial advertisement when my mom was watching something on the television way back in 1989. You know, it's just fun. I always typically wind up watching this on a late Sunday afternoon.

The boat atmosphere worked with Jason stalking around. Heck, even though his look is somewhat simple, it’s slick. There’s no denying how unique the hockey mask is. You got a few likable characters, a decent sense of humor, and a few good kills. The ending still doesn’t sit well, in the sense of how Jason was defeated. Kid Jason was a bit overboard though.

After knowing that they weren't gonna be able to afford to film in NY the way they were hoping to, the fact most of the movie takes place on the ship. I'm a fan of some of the deaths on the ship but the best part in part 8 is when Jason is in time square

I always had that same feeling too about that song in the this film. Every time that song comes on I feel like this is the end of Jason. And I can't wait the get my hands on the new F13 set, I know some people who hate all of the F13 movies and still are buying the boxset wish I think it's crazy. Anyway great video.

My take on the franchise is that they are all good movies. I include the New Line movies in that statement. I believe that they are all great movies in their own way. The series offers a variety. If they all weren’t good movies, they would not have collectively grossed over $500,000,000 worldwide. To be that lucrative of a franchise, they must be good. If people are spending that much money on the franchise, collectively, that means that the people like the films. If the people like the films, that means that they are good films regardless of critics or film school textbook criteria.

Sure Jason takes Manhattan may have problems but I have fun with the movie, to me it's almost on that same fun level as Jason lives, for me it's fun to watch Jason lives and Jason takes Manhattan, those are the funnest Friday the 13th movies, I could sit down and enjoy either one of them but I agree Jason takes Manhattan has a goodbye filled to it and same could be said for army of Darkness except I would say army of Darkness feels like a goodbye to the classic era of the '80s to early '90s style of movies.

I’m with you christian I know Jason takes Manhattan is not a good movie but I still like it a lot I’d probably rank it #6 overall. It definitely has flaws but it did some things really well imo like nailing the look of Jason I know a lot of people really like the part 7 look. Which is a great look but the part 8 look might be my favorite Jason look overall it’s definitely my favorite zombie Jason look for sure. That mask is so killer and I feel the same way about this film as you your not alone. Great video!

I think more people should (or need to, IMO) realize that film is entirely subjective. The experience of watching a movie & enjoying it shouldn't be dictated by a "Board of Pop Culture Directors". If you like a movie, & it speaks to you, that is all that matters. Christian, you've been able to put into words something I've felt about the movie for awhile. It's also important to note that I've heard (from the blog John's Horror Corner, specifically) that the latter Paramount Fridays pull a lot from the latter Elm Street films, so if you're an Elm Street fan (as I know you, as well as myself, are), you're bound to like the later Fridays. There's been a symbiosis with the franchises since the midway point of each. Rob Hedden also intended for this to end the franchise, & if you think about it, he does. "Some say he died a boy, but came back a man." Jason was restored back to being a deceased little boy in Part 8. It was brought full circle. Jason's journey going to Hell & then Space were fun little corners of the franchise unto themselves, but they exist to allow New Line to keep the license. FVJ really seems to follow Part 8 in that Jason completely regenerates again, plus he looks like his Paramount Era counterpart.

JTM is a complicated one. On the one hand, it has some guilty pleasure moments, an interesting premise, and nice music. On the other hand, it is really boring, very tame violence, and Manhattan is barely a part of the movie.
