Reviewers of these Friday flicks make allot out of how the sexually active people typically get snuffed while the more celibate female main protagonist typically survives and even fells the killer, but I always thought THAT was just because the latter was more ALERT - which, if you think about it, would be plausible. Some of the filmmakers have even STATED THIS in interviews.

@dragoninthewest12 жыл бұрын
It's important to keep in mind that this was made near the beginning of the satanic panic and anything not considered good Christian fun was considered evil. There was also a lot of residual of the Hays code mindset in Hollywood. I also think having the virtuous girl survive was the only way that they'd get away with having all that splatter
@ianfindly32572 жыл бұрын
@@dragoninthewest1 I didn't get the impression that the heroin in THIS movie was particularly PRUDISH herself. I mean she participates in a game of "Stripp Poker" and she has a BOYFRIEND (the male character with the curly hair, moustache, and glasses), and while they aren't shown in bed together (like some of the other young counselors) its seemingly implied that they do have an intimate affair. So, not exactly what some right-wing religious puritan would call "virtuous".

In reading, one should notice and fondle details. There is nothing wrong about the moonshine of generalization when it comes after the sunny trifles of the book have been lovingly collected. If one begins with a readymade generalization, one begins at the wrong end and travels away from the book before one has started to understand it. Nothing is more boring or more unfair to the author than starting to read, say, Madame Bovary, with the preconceived notion that it is a denunciation of the bourgeoisie. We should always remember that the work of art is invariably the creation of a new world, so that the first thing we should do is to study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as something brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already know. When this new world has been closely studied, then and only then let us examine its links with other worlds, other branches of knowledge. - Nabokov's Lectures on Literature All bad film criticism happens because people don't follow this rule.

This movie is my favorite of the series for everything about it, except for Ginny not being in it, and the best way to watch it is from 'Monstervision' on Halloween 1998! The first two movies are totally set apart from the rest mainly because they DO seem like Wes made them, namely for Mrs. Voorhees, Ginny, the story, and the atmosphere--and that makes perfect sense because Sean Cunningham and Steve Miner were both involved with 'The Last House on the Left' with him:):)
