When you've actually lived with someone who requires a wheelchair, it's impossible to watch this without wondering this: why on earth would the paralyzed guy take a live-in summer job at a camp that not only doesn't appear to be ADA wheelchair- access compliant, but at a camp in which a giant, steep staircase is literally THE only apparent way to get from your cabin to the rest of the camp?! I think the whole "Jason the Mad Killer" bit was dreamed up by the camp owners to avoid the inevitable federal lawsuit!
@BWMagus4 жыл бұрын

BWMagus Sorry, I forgot to add a "mostly sarcasm" tag!
@maneckineckbeard17494 жыл бұрын
BWMagus That said...seriously, though- in a pre-ADA country it does seem even MORE unlikely & weird that a wheelchair-bound person would take a job at a camp where they'd be totally unable to get around at all? And, for that matter, who would hire someone who couldn't get out of their cabin? Liability definitely still was a thing back then, and I'd hate to be the camp owner if there was a fire or medical emergency in the cabin... (Ok, this time I *won't* forget the sarcasm tag! 😉 I just grew up with a good friend whose dad sold insurance. Spent a LOT of time hearing about liability over dinner...)

Two things about this movie which nobody mentions are- 1) it may have the earliest pop-cultural reference to that old "the bear wiped his ass with the rabbit" joke, and 2) it serves as an early example of a horror/slasher movie wherein the black guy presumably survives (they only gave him one or two words but at least they didn't kill him).
@DH19867 жыл бұрын
Saying the black guy always gets killed feels strange since most of the major characters in horror movies die anyway. "You know the black guy dies right?" Yeah, so do twelve other people....

Apologies for the belated response. Your point is valid and well taken. I was aware of that when I commented. Needless to say i's not always true but it's a perception which is so pervasive that it has been joked about in parodies etc. I would be remiss not to point that out. I was going that Ben from Night of the Living Dead survived but then I thought about it and that's not true because Ben does die in both the 1968 and 1990 versions. Deep Blue Sea might be a better example- Who was that Ice T or Ice Cube I can't quite recall. Any ways good point.

I'm interested in the idea of F13 continuing without Jason, but random killers with backstories. That sounds really interesting because it makes an idea for each killer having a sincere or interesting motive that drives the viewer to know more.
@0neDoomedSpaceMarine6 жыл бұрын
Valyne Krinuz Though there's some fun to be had in watching all the sequels, I generally agree that most slasher film series could have turned out far better as anthology series. Like Halloween, the first two movies are good and they work as their own self-contained story, and the third one was a new story, but idiots mooing about muh Myers gave us decades of awful sequels which didn't need to be made. How did the Michael Myers character benefit from all that shoehorned cult and voodoo shit? He didn't. Someone should start a horror anthology series, where one story can at most make up 2, maybe 3 movies, then the next film has to do something different. You could have some of the same characters, hell, make it a setting with recurring locations, themes, characters and rules, but once you finally do split the slasher killer's skull down to the neck with a Roman gladius or something, you can't use him again, and you gotta work out a new villain with a new motive, ideally with his own style.

If the reboot the franchise again, they could do a scene where Jason is chasing a guy, and the guy outruns him, only to come face to face with a Grizzly. The bear roars, the guy screams and and turns around to run away, but Jason is now standing right behind him. Jason swings the machete and decapitates the man. His severed head fly's through the air, right into the Bear's paws. The Bear catches the head, and takes a bite out of it, then roars approvingly at Jason, and the two are now allies for life!!!

You see, when Steve Miner was going to direct Godzilla King of the Monsters in 3-D with Fred Dekker's script, although Toho gave him the blessing to make it, William Stout (who did Masters of the Universe) was hired to be the production designer, as I remembered, Rick Baker was going to make a gigantic Godzilla head. But let me get back on topic, as I remember, when Steve was doing presentation to major studios for the film and they were interested in which they said "Yes" but when he was top of the studio, they said no and they walked away from the proposed budget about 30 million in which Cannon could've made instead of Superman IV.

Actually bro. King agreed to star in the sequel. And upon showing up to the set was informed that she was being killed off immediately. Due to the success of the film, the sequel was immediately greenlit, filming on the sequel was started,made,and edited. It then came out a year after the first film. And so on with the next four films. Just like saw. And yes King had a stalker and she was actually at gun point. And I'm pretty sure it was after filming this short spot. And yes,she was aware she had a stalker when she starred in the sequel, however she encountered him after this. And this was why her career was cut short on the big screen. But,you can see her in on of them newer Friday the 13th fan movies. She's pretty good in the one she's in,and some of them are actually also pretty descent. Even better than Jason Goes to Hell and Jason Takes a Boat,then Canada,then takes Manhattan for about five minutes or so.

Some of that came down to cost, because the reel film used back then was quite expensive. Thus the question would often come down to *"Do we keep this nixed material just as a memory, with the off chance we'll ever get to use it decades from now, or do we wipe these reels and reuse them for something which could be successful and profitable on its own now?"* Not all filmstock was reusable like that I think, but some were, and television networks in particular would operate on this logic, which is why some episodes of old TV series are now lost, and why sometimes the original footage for entire series or TV movies were sometimes lost forever. Sometimes, footage could also just be damaged or even completely ruined due to accidents (fires, floods), theft, or being stored in a bad place. Modern storage media has made this much less of a problem, where a Solid State Drive can reliably hold MANY hours of high definition footage.

One way to settle the whole issue of whether to make the sequels stand-alones dealing with Friday the 13th or more slasher stories about Jason(which they went with):Chainsaw cage fights in the writers room.Seriously though,what I think(of course,I’m not in the movie biz)is they should have made an anthology of stories dealing with F13 themes,and one of these stories could actually involve Jason.Then have a screening,at which a questionnaire is passed out,and one of those questions would be “which story did you like the most”.If the majority liked the one with Jason best,then continue making films about the masked killer.If not,there’s a sign that it might be a good idea to go with the one-off story every Friday the 13th.

It's on his original channel. Type in Brad Jones. That's the name of the channel, where you can find all of his old KZbin videos.

Is it a slimmed down version instead of 20 minutes?
@spideyfan19909 жыл бұрын
+Jiddy12345 it's about eight minutes long I believe. That's about the length of his old videos.

The actor who plays Scott (talks to dog) looks like Nicholas Brendan and Sean Maher had a son. I approve.

It's another reviewer called Phelous. Just search Phelous and his channel will come up. He's amusing but I found him annoying after a while. Anyhow, good luck :)

There is a mistake in this review. When Jason crashes through the window at the end and grabs Ginny, the Cinema Snob says that Jason is played by John Belushi. In fact, John Belushi is not in this film. The actor who portrays Jason in that particular scene is either Warrington Gillette or Steve Dash.

Honestly, I don't know if you're trolling, or really don't understand this channel.

It's not a mistake. It's a joke because the unmasked Jason looks like a deformed version of John Belushi.

You know, I think this would be a very different world if _Friday the 13th_ had just been anthology films.
