Last i checked, i'm allergic to dandelion pollen. Maybe i should eat some to assert dominance.
@shannonallison30534 жыл бұрын
If you are allergic to things you can actually slowly introduce them over a long period of time and sometimes people will no longer be allergic . My sister in law had to do that with my twin nephews because they were allergic to eggs. Now if you have a very serious allergy to this or anything else I would not try this. Just something to think about if you like.

Shannon Allison this is generally really bad advice. Usually pollen allergies are mild, so this might be an exception, but with most allergies you can’t tell the severity of the allergy based on past reactions.
@limalicious4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the allergy. I'm allergic to strawberries (sudden allergy in my teens??) and while I don't go stop breathing, I break out in hives and spike a fever. Every time I eat something contaminated even slightly, I have a worsening reaction (it feels like a niacin reaction but from HELL). If your allergy gets significantly worse instead of improving, stop.

Cassie Chew - Nothing weird about eating fried Dandelion flowers it is one of those things either people pick them and fry them or people don't but the people that don't usually only like food that they buy at McDonalds, KFC or Taco Bell. Have a beautiful day and go pick yourself some Dandelions flowers and fry them (PS I like a thin simple batter (A/P Flour, Fine Corn Meal or corn Flour, Salt, Black Pepper, a little Baking Powder, ice cold Seltzer water or Club soda, and peanut oil to shallow fry them in. (the ratio of flour to corn meal(flour) is 2-1 and for ever cup of flour add 1&1/2 teaspoons of Baking Powder and 1/2 teaspoons to 3/4 teaspoons of salt and 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons of Black Pepper. The amount of Ice Cold Seltzer Water or Club Soda I do by eye but I want a batter that thinner than pancake batter think tempura batter and fry them until crispy in about 1/2 to 5/8 inch of peanut oil or shortening that is shimming but not smoking hot

Dandelion flowers aren't as "floral" tasting as many other flowers. I've sprinkled them raw into salads. Nasturtiums have a sharp peppery kick. Bee balm is really interesting... kind of sweet/spicy. Pansies just taste kind of "green", but are very pretty. Sorrel blossom is acidic. And if you get into flowers like hibiscus and squash blossoms, which have more uses, you could do a whole flower series!
@SobrietyandSolace4 жыл бұрын
When you say sorrel, do you mean the real sorrel or hibiscus? They're funny, the fruit forming from the calyx instead of the ovary of the flower. I have some leftover hibiscus/sorrel drink in the fridge I'm going to reduce down to use as flavouring for candy. You can also put the pulp in fruit cake when you're done making your tea/juice if you got the fresh stuff.

What a lovely surprise to hear that you are an apiarist! We have an apiary very near the home I am moving to shortly, and I am hoping to see many of their bees paying visits to my flowers and veggies! I keep a bee watering station all summer to help the bees. It is so simple to do too. I simply take an old worn glass pie plate, place a layer of the flattened glass beads you can find at any craft store, and arrange them in a single layer on the bottom of the pie plate. Then I just pour filtered or natural spring water over the beads so the topmost surface is still above water. Bees land on the beads and drink from the water. We should all be doing everything possible to support our little buddies. I keep mine right outside my living room window and really enjoy watching the bees come to the water station!

Somebody from Rhode Island! I grew up in RI from my birth in 1990 until I moved in 2011. I fly up there at least once a year to visit family, and I miss Wright's Dairy Farm SO much. Their Boston Cream Trifle Bowl, their amazing chocolate milk (to which major store ones canNOT compare), their desserts... Nice to see a great KZbin from my homestate doing unsponsored promos of New England food!

Yes, they grow like that almost everywhere, but they got take to the Americas as a source of food initially (because it was an easy to grow green) then it kinda became a pest and now most consider it a weed.

I tried these last night. They were delicious! Tasted like a fried clam but without the chewiness. One word of advice...I picked my flowers at about 4pm but didn't fry them up until 8pm. The flowers had all closed up! So they didn't look as pretty as yours but still tasted great!

You probably already know this, but many native american tribes considered dandelions a blessing. At the same time bees were derisively called to as "white man's flies". I've been eating dandelion greens my whole life, but never thought to eat the flowers. Thanks for this!
@ajrwilde144 жыл бұрын
this seems unlikely since dandelions are not native to the Americas and were introduced by European settlers

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS RECIPE FOR LITERAL DECADES!!! I'm sorry for the excessive caps but when I was in like, 1st grade, my teacher made this in a special occasion (I cant recall why) but I remember them being so good and me being so young I was in awe that you could eat flowers.
