Instead of pepper, I use a small diced up potato and I also add corn meal mix instead of flour. I grew up in Arkansas so that may explain the differences. My grandmother did not drive and lived way out in the middle of nowhere and probably just used up what she had as she could not run to the store.

I was always use to frying okra in cornmeal, but not anymore. I ordered fried okra at my favorite restaurant and had fried okra in flour salt and pepper. It was the best so that’s the way I will cook mine from now own

I'm in Arkansas and most do use corn meal for fried green tomatoes too and I don't like it. I am a buttermilk and flour fried green tomato girl. It's my own mix I make

Oh my goodness! As if just a batch of fried ocra isn't yummy enough, you make a "deluxe" batch with some other veggies! Love that idea and can't wait to try that combination. 😊❤

I was raise in the UK,so I never had okra, after moving to NYC,still no okra, then the area I live saw a big influx of Bengali people, and suddenly okra everywhere,I love it.The Bengali also fry it with tomatoes, and onion, with a medium amount of spices,it’s not one of their spicy dishes.

I made this. It is addictive. It's even good cold the next day. My only suggestion to other newbies is to make sure that you season everything well. Like, VERY well. I thought I had, but after tasting the first batch, I had to make adjustments! This recipe is a keeper, Tammy!

OMG! I love fried okra. Planted some last year but not this year. Fried it up just as Tammy showed. Buttermilk, self rising flour and s&p. Delicious. Even my daughter who often turns up her nose at more unusual things, said it was good!!! Haven’t had okra this summer. Must run out and find some!! Tammy, have ever used the powdered buttermilk? Mix it as you need it. I got some recently but haven’t tried it yet.
