Happy Friday, Alan! Never had Demon but tried to love the BE-OD but so damn noisy :)
@GearGasmsАй бұрын
Yeah you hear it engage for sure! Have a great weekend!

With such a price difference, I'm leaning towards the Demon. I actually like the sound better. It's a bit warmer

Hopefully the knobs were close enough! The overhead shot makes them look a tiny bit off by I tried to keep them the same

No matter which of these pedals you have, the internal trim will do a lot to tame the beast. I dialed mine way back and it now does a very nice overdrive and stacks well with other OD pedals. (Don't worry - there's still plenty of gain, but now you can hear it change when you turn the Gain control down) As shipped these pedals are aiming at the Metal heads. Trim the gain back and it works for us Classic Rock/Blues and Fusion players.

Aaahh, great memories of the school cafeteria. Cardboard pizza made with 'pasteurized cheese-food product' and ketchup. Shepherd's Pie the day after meatloaf. And sitting one table over opposite Leslie G. so I could see up her dress. Reserving my right to post another separate comment about the overdrive pedals.

Leslie G was playing a deliberate game with you. She knew how she was sitting! 😜

With everything set at noon, for me the Freedman knockoff has a nicer fatter sound in the mids but a little less clarity in the highs, especially playing chords and chugging. It also seemed louder than the real Friedman at the same settings but without more overall distortion. With that Ibanez guitar and SDs I'd like the Freedman for rhythm playing and a Les Paul type would probably sound similar. If I wanted a drive pedal mainly to kick in for leads I'd like the Friedman, which has cleaner highs playing notes instead of chords, moreso when you go righty-tighty on the 'tight' knob, and that sounded very nice and would probably put some balls on a Strat. Going lefty-loosey on either one just made it sound muddy. The highs playing notes/riffs instead of chords was the biggest difference in these pedals to my ears. Seems like the circuits on both are having a hard time processing chords without getting fuzzy, and they both sound much sharper when just processing notes, especially in the high freqs. Even if they cost the same though and were both built in USA I'd probably go with the Freedman for what and how I play. Reliabilty could be an issue though and if I was in a performing band I'd consider going with the Friedman even though it's more expensive. But maybe we'll see with time that it's not an issue, and I've never yet had a pedal crap out on me, regardless of price. "Your mileage may vary." Really depends a lot on the guitar, pickups, and your particular rig.

Well put! I kind of felt like the DemonFX was a little louder as well. Both have an internal trim pot where you can reduce or increase the gain. I tried it with the trim pot dialed down but it didn’t do the overall tone any favors so I set it back to middle

@@GearGasms It's hard to describe in writing how something sounds so glad that made some sense. Btw I use a 30+ year old Tube Works 'Tube Driver' pedal as my OD unit. It's a 12ax7 preamp with its own power supply. Has knobs for 'out level' (which mixes the proportion of the amplified signal from zero to all-in), 'eq,' and 'tube drive' for the actual gain. Awesome heavy duty pedal, my "always on" (almost) and it still works like a dream. Gives a nice real tube sound to a solid-state amp but it can get nasty and loud too. If I use other pedals the Tube Driver likes to be last in line before the amp input. Enjoyed the show, take it ez Alan!

daemond sounds less compressed little bit which I personally prefer
@GearGasmsАй бұрын
Yeah there seems to be subtle differences but my knob alignment may not have been great

Both are great

I noticed a slight difference. The Friedman sounds just a tad brighter to my ears, the Demonfx just a hair flubbier…new word
