Why would he kill himself slowly and very painfully by multiple stabbings, when he had a rifle handy? The idea that he committed suicide by stabbing himself is ridiculous.
@Aristos_Achaion
@Aristos_Achaion 6 ай бұрын
Agreed. What kind of wounds were those responsible for his death? Blade wounds? Maybe he was gored by animal antlers, or another type of weapon (arrow). A good coroner should be able to say more about the nature and origin of the wounds. The position in which he was found smacks of foul play more than of suicide. Such a clumsy suicide is hard to imagine, especially on the part of a hunter. What about the bruises? Could those have been self-inflicted? With what? If you want to end your life and you have a gun with you in the middle of nowhere, why use such prosaic methods?

I agree! Plus if you look at the case files, the knife was found underneath his body.. partially closed with really no markings on it.. so they're saying he stabbed himself 17 times then tried closing the knife? Also, the medical examinaers that were brought in after determined that 2 knives were used.. one being a serrated knife which Jeffrey's was not.. also why keep calling for help if you were just going to kill yourself?! Nothing makes sense! I also don't think the footprints should be so highly factored..I mean you notice you don't see any of the SAR or authorities footprints? When they first approached they weren't planning on finding a crime scene.. the footprints photos are very deep..possibly indicates someone carried him to that spot.. plus there were 286 hikers in that 12,700 acre area camping and hunting that weekend.. I'm sure many had the same gear, same boots and sizes. Plus how did Jeff get ask the defensive bruises and cuts and scrapes all over his body? 😳just makes no sense! I hope the case will be reopened and the family will get the true answers..🙏thank you for watching and your feedback!

@@funniebunnie4u yes I did research and did find (to my shock and horror that people have done things in this nature) however, that said, the ones I read about so had serious mental illness or other issues.. Jeffrey was at a high point in his life and was so excited about so many things including his new classes he was about to start.. just so tragic and imho I don't think this was suicide.. for many reasons.. first off even the original medical examiner said there were many defensive wounds and they thought 2 knives must have been used because the cuts on his hands were from a serrated blade.. plus he had those 2 guns. This was a very brutal, painful and horrible death.. why would he just decide to do this after being lost for only a few hours? Idk there's so many things that don't make sense.. and I think he footprints got too much attention.. if you look you don't see any of the authorities footprints or b search and rescue footprints and when they first came to the scene they weren't expecting a crime scene.. in the grassy area there were tons of footprints. Plus looking at the depth of the footprints in the photos, it's possible someone carried him to that location. Who knows🤷‍♂️ I just feel there are too many things that don't add up in this tragic case..Hopefully the family will get the answers they are looking for🙏🙏thank you for watching and your feedback!

This is insane! With the bruise to his head it sounds like he was hit and went down, the cut between his fingers easily is a defense wound, the half open knife sounds like he was trying to get his own weapon out, and probably was completely overtaken at that point. This is a fully complete failure of the GBI! We should all start an e-mail campaign to reopen this case!!!

Concerning the foot prints that they determined to be Jeffreys, did he have a normal gait, or did it appear he was staggering to the point he collapsed? The blood evidence, was it all at the scene where he died? Did it appear that he was trying to get away at the time of injuries, and blood found elsewhere? As far as his arms being crossed, I doubt he fell in that position. Crossing someone's arms after you kill them shows remorse. I still have questions. There needs to be another autopsy.

I spent more than 35 years as a medical professional and now I volunteer as a death investigator. Sadly, I have seen this form of suicide many times. When a person is murdered via a knife, the killer is usually in a rage and uses a great deal of force to drive the knife as deeply into the victim as possible. In suicides by knife, we always see the same pattern; many small superficial wounds, none of which would kill a human-being, but combined will cause the person to eventually bleed to death. Each time the person tries to stab themselves they begin to feel fear and stop before they actually cause a catastrophic wound. Each time they try they get a little deeper, so you end up with many superficial wounds that become progressively deeper. There are many other clues such as the angle in which the knife entered the body, but I wont go into all of that here. This type of suicide usually happens during a psychotic event. This young man may have been so terrified of being lost in the woods after dark that it triggered this. Trying to commit suicide with a long-gun is quite difficult, especially if you're a larger person, they are just not as agile, but even if you're small it's a tough thing to do. Bryan mentioned the single foot prints and the possibility that the perpetrator let his victim walk away. I don't know of any killer who would stab someone multiple times and then would allow them to walk away! Most killers do not want to be caught so allowing the victim to leave is highly unlikely. I'd also like to mention that there have been suicides wherein the person did cause catastrophic wounds but this is rare. There were two live feeds of people committing suicide using a knife. I no longer remember, but I'm pretty sure one was Facebook Live and the second one was TikTok. These people both created the same pattern; starting out with superficial wounds and worked up to more serious wounds. Regardless, it's just a very sad tragedy.

Omg that sounds like a tough job! Thank you for sharing your experiences and information. 🙏 I did leave a few things out because I didn't want it to be too rough for yt.. but a couple of things.. the medical examiner said that 2 types of knives were used.. one was serrated.. Jeff didn't have that kind and it was never found.. secondly he had 4 wounds that by themselves they said would have been fatal. 3 deep wounds to the heart and one deep wound to the abdomen around the liver.. he also had defensive wounds and bruises all over his body.. one large bruise on his head several on his legs and various other superficial wounds. I also don't understand why he would keep calling for help.. and yes it could be like you said something in him just snapped.. but in my experience when people are lost in the wilderness, they will fight for survival as long as they can. This guy was an experienced woodsman and was only lost for a couple of hours. In regards to the footprints, I had a couple of thoughts.. for one there were 286 campers & hunters in the area for that long weekend. All from small towns in the area.. I'm sure many of them had similar gear and boots.. but the footprints were so much deeper than any of the authorities and search and rescue..(because when they came to the scene they thought they were looking for a live man) it could be that someone carried him there. But as you said it could have been as you described.. he did have one large rifle but another smaller gun. Either way the whole thing is so tragic:( and the family just doesn't understand because he was so happy at the time and had so many things planned but🤷‍♂️ thank you for watching and your feedback 🙏🙏

I think the GBI either didn't want to have an open case on their books, or someone wanted the case closed. Because there isn't a medical examiner worth their salt who would say that a completely stable, sober individual would stab & cut themselves over _17 times_ to kill themselves when they had loaded guns in their possession. Stabbing yourself is _painful & slow...,_ the opposite of suicidal ideation,who want a quick & painless exit. The blunt force trauma is another red flag. And that's leaving aside the whole issue of Jeff calling multiple people including 911 for help, and the strange story of his "buddy". I don't know enough details to point the finger at him as being responsible, but he wouldn't be the first person to tell half-truths or omit certain info that paints himself in a bad light. Maybe he didn't go looking for Jeffrey as thoroughly as he claimed... or maybe these other hunters had threatened him. I could believe a ruling of 'accidental' or 'undetermined', given it was during a hunting trip. Some kind of animal attack is a more believable explanation, or even walking into an illegal trap left by poachers, drug traffickers, or a particularly nasty landowner. But the labelling of this as a 'suicide' in the face of the forensic evidence immediately puts a spotlight on authorities as to why they would accept such a ludicrous explanation.

After hearing the first part, about the way he was found and about the many puncture wounds, probable suicide was my very first thought. Sounds crazy and bizarr, but happens and sometimes you find a lot of superficial wounds to the chest and abdomen in these cases. You also often find a cut to the persons hand, where they slipped off the bloody knife into the blade. To me it makes more sense than a murder, just follow the evidence. A big guy like him, how does he get puncture wounds? All wounds would have been a bit torn had there been a physical altercation and he'd been moving. If there had been a fight there would have been traces of that where he was found. 2) He still phoned his friend while it was already dark. In the area sunset time is around 7 p.m that time of year! So who could possibly have stumbled over him, attacked him for no reason, (politely asked him to stay still so he could stab him?) then positioned him like that with arms across the chest... all in the complete utter darkness, without getting it all messy with footprints all over? Look at the facts: his top unzipped but still on his body. His two rifles neatly beside him - his knife put half underneath his body, his arms crossed across his body... how does all that occur, if he was threatened or attacked by somebody in the dark? So what is the Why? It's known that depressed people often put on happy faces when around their family. And he could have wanted it to not look like a suicide for religious reasons. Who knows how stable he really was? It could have been a psychotic episode of some kind of a beginning mental illness he had tried to hide. He still lived with Mom at the age of 35, had a dream of doing better in life. What if the new school was too challenging and overwhelming? What if he thought he couldn't achieve as hoped or can't live up to expectations. The feeling of failure can become too much. And lastly, being an experienced outdoor man, getting lost on the first day is definitely a red flag. That sounds like a dry run to me. But to determine what really happened we would need to know many more details. What did his phone say about movement? How clean and deep were his wounds, really? I bet they found traces of his blood on the knife or another tool near by. Because the only way they could have concluded suicide was if they found some kind of weapon able to cause these wounds. And my guess is that they did.

Those areas... it's possible he hit a drug runner or grower's booby trap and managed to make it out to the tall grass area where he knew he had a better chance of being spotted from above. You didn't say if the autopsy report mentioned the age of the bruises and wounds. The hand wound sounds defensive to some degree, like trying to stop a fall. I wonder if they could tell if it happened at the same time as the other wounds or if it happened later, as he was trying to find his way out. His friend being avoidant at the funeral and all - investigators probably told him not to talk about it until he was either cleared or the investigation was over plus survivor's guilt. If he really had nothing to do with it, that is. Adding: Moonshiner traps out there, too. There are "Dixie mafia" areas in the deep south that still have booby traps long after the person who set them died, so it wouldn't have even needed to be a recent trap. Nasty traps like punji sticks are not unheard of either.

I know this sounds unlikely but could it have been a deer?(buck) it's so highly unlikely but it's the only thing I can think of that isn't brought up. I don't think that's the case but maybe. Deer bed in tall grass like he was found in, maybe he came across a buck in rut and it went at him and pinned him down? Deer typically attack humans with their hooves but I can't think of much else.

He sounds like someone that was very excited about life. Like he had a very good life filled with love from his family. This is a very tragic story. Sounds very suspicious. The whole story. Jeff getting lost. Darrell not finding him. It just seems suspect especially the fact that they split up when clearly Jeff did not know how to navigate the woods. You never leave your friend. Period. 😮

Not every coroner is a forensic pathologist, so he/she might not have had a high level of education or experience. This case needs a second autopsy. He could also have had a psychotic break. There was also a case on Dr G. Medical Examiner where a guy stabbed himself to death because of a medication he was on. Animal attack sounds most reasonable and knowing he was going to die, he laid down in that manner. Sounds like there were enough other hunters in the area that one could also suspect homicide from someone other than his partner.
@angelmartin7310
@angelmartin7310 6 ай бұрын
If the wounds matched ANY *known* animal they wouldnt have gone to the extreme of ruling it a suicide, the fact that they did makes me think something highly strange went on here. The friend might be hiding the fact that Jeff said something strange was after him, fearing he would be even further suspected while also being labeled crazy. They said the woods were oddly dead, no wildlife activity. Look into the missing/murdered bowhunters especially in Kentucky.

Jeffrey, I never seen anything like this. That's a bear attack. The puncher wound in the abdomen, look like a 22 , bullet hole? That's the bears index claw, finger. If it was his teeth would of been a neck wound. I would find my sheep with their 4 legs popped out of socket laying on their back with a one by foot wide stripe by 2 foot long ripped from the sheep's under carriage, no other markings, no blood. County Trappers showed me what was killing my sheep. Never seen anything like that. Spooky.

Prayers for Jeffrey’s survivors that unequivocal, solid answers, if such answers are possible, will eventually be provided concerning this puzzling death. It is clear that he was devoted to his Catholic faith, even joining the Knights of Columbu. His strong Catholic faith would also suggest that he would be less likely to have taken his own life as traditionally, the Catholic faith has been strongly opposed to someone taking their own life. I’m thinking, too, of his friends who accompanied Jeffrey on the deer hunting trip, a trip that should have been enjoyable for all. How difficult it must have been during those long hours of themselves and, finally, law enforcement, as they spent hours attempting to locate their friend. Friends -and probably authorities, as well - had hoped - indeed, expected that Jeffrey had just become lost in the woods, but instead,Jeffrey’s dead body was found with stab wounds that the coroner’s report stated were likely self-inflicted. There was only one set of boot footprints found at the scene, and the report indicated the footprints matched Jeffrey’s hunting boots sole and were the same shoe size. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence conflicting with suicide, but to me as a lay person, it sure seems to be an unconventional suicide. To me, it would have been more likely for a person intent on a quick and certain death to have used a firearm- assuming that the hunters weren’t using crossbows, as one of my relatives’ husband does, rather than firearms. But perhaps Jeffrey - if he were intent on suicide - feared that his friends would hear the sound of the gunshot and discover him in time to save his life. Also, it would seem to me that a stab wound would be very painful and not so instantaneously lethal as a bullet wound. However, Jeffrey was an experienced hunter, so he likely would have been more knowledgeable as how to stab himself in an area of his body where the wound would become very quickly fatal. The only way I, a lay person, can imagine it would be a homicide is if Jeffrey died at the hand of some deranged transient person living off the land in the woods or maybe a serial killer, as happened several decades ago on a well traveled trail in a national or state park in the South - possibly Georgia? In that instance, the man, who was older than serial killers generally are, maybe in his 60s, was friendly and accompanied by his dog, thereby appearing unthreatening. Among his victims were an older couple and a young woman, who also had a dog with her. I believe the young woman was his last victim. That killer was caught. Do you remember that case? Still, there were not other footprints…but the authorities found Jeffrey’s remains at 3 a.m. when it would have been very dark outside. I wonder whether they took sufficient samples for evidence from his body and were any samples such as a stray hair, for example, tested unknown DNA? One just wonders how thorough the investigation was. Very odd, very tragic.

My 2 cents would be: If those puncture wounds are more round than linear, I'd suspect he was attacked by a pre-rut whitetail buck - possibly rabid or maybe CWD. Surprised in the dark in thick tall grass with his rifles slung, he tried to fight off the attack - especially telling is the cut through the webbing between his thumb and forefinger.

He got lost twice. Very odd. And he was out after dark, too. Something doesn't add up. I wonder what the toxicology report showed. Other commenters wondered about attack by a wild animal. That seems possible--bear, deer with antlers? Bruises could have been from running into trees and brush in the dark also, if he was panicked.

It sounds like he was surprised, either someone he trusted caught him off guard, or someone unknown caught him unaware and killed him. Just for the simple fact, if someone was chasing him or he knew something was going on, he had his gun, why wouldn't you use it to defend yourself in that situation, second, you have a gun, if you're suicidal, why not just use that to end it, and let's not forget about that he was stabbed, yet his knife had no blood or any other weapon was found. Suicide is the last thing that would of happen here.
