Updated list of German words in Frieren: *Aura* = aura *Bluterei* = may refer to the word "bluten" (bleeding). It's worth pointing out that Lügner's blood manipulation spell is written as "Balterie" in other translations, which is most likely a reference to the German word for artery (Arterie). *Draht* = wire *Eisen* = iron *Eng Road* = tight, narrow *Erfassen* = to capture, to gather (it's the name of Linie's imitation spell) *Ewig* the sage = eternal, forever *Fern* = far away, distant *Flamme* = flame *Frieren* = to freeze, to feel cold *Heiter* = cheerful, merry *Himmel* = heaven (can refer to the sky and heaven in a religious sense) *Linie* = line *Lügner* = liar *Stark* = strong *Qual* = agony, torture

Sousou no Frieren - right way That's the Japanese title of the anime, which is what the demons call it at the beginning of this episode. For some reason, the English title is completely different
@ethanquirk28Ай бұрын
Because sousou no Frieren is a pun in Japanese that doesn’t work at all when translated to English. In its usual context, 葬送 (bury,send off) is used in terms of grief. As in to her friends, Frieren is the one sending them of at their funeral, like what she is doing for Himmel. In less common contexts, it is used in relation to killing, as in to to the demons, she is the one putting them in the ground. The most direct translation to English would be “Frieren the Undertaker” but that doesn’t exactly have a vibe that fits the show so they went thematically with the first meaning.
@momon5994Ай бұрын
@@ethanquirk28 I think it was possible to come up with something that would be considered a death threat and the way she buries her friends at the same time, but the localizers just didn't want to.
@ethanquirk28Ай бұрын
@@momon5994there are, but they don’t exactly have positive connotations in English and they still need to brand the show I guess 🤷♂️ Plus they were probably trying to avoid the Demon Slayer connections. If people mistook it for a spinoff and went into the show expecting as much based off the title then it would lilely produce more negative reviews for the show. Then again, the localisation to “Demon Slayer” from “Kimetsu No Yaiba” is a whole other thing

Milena's confusion about the subtitle of the show Confused ME 😂 it's pretty cut and dry if you know the meaning of all those words in english. Though it is kind of insulting that they thought we needed a more obvious title so we'd know what the show is about, the original japanese title has multiple meanings though so I understand choosing something else for conveniences sake.

Well the wordplay in Sousou no Frieren doesn't really translate properly to English, and beyond Journey's end is more fitting than Frieren the Slayer imo

Just for information mages cannot really use healing magic, it is a kind of magic coming from the Goddess and hasn't been replicated by humanity's magic system. To use it you must pray to the Goddess with holy scriptures in hand as a magical focus, which is why usually priest are the one doing it. Although nothing stops a mage from having the scripture and praying thus technically using healing magic, it will comes from the Goddess, not the mage himself.

About the fighting and the suits of armor. 80 years ago was when Frieren and the squad fought Aura and made her flee 28 years ago Himmel died and Aura came back from hiding So that suit could be the son or an ancestor of Graf Granat but I think it's the son wearing one of their old suits of armor that Frieren recognized from 80 years ago and she might think it's someone else.
