Watched the King's Guard Channel, back to the homepage and there was your video. Friesians are my absolute favourites, always wanted to own one but, alas, not in this lifetime it would seem. Yeah I kind of had the same thought. But I think the historical part of it is less important than the costume part.

The winner uses spurs. No one needs to use spurs

Obviously some horses need spurs or else no one would use them. You're making a blanket statement about a horse know nothing about. And spurs do not inflict some great pain on the horse. The spurs just provide an aid for adding pressure.
