I loved this show as a kid and just re-watched it last year, and I thought it still held up incredibly well. I loved the characters, the relationships between the kids, parents, neighbors, the voice acting done by actual kids/teens, the troubles they had and the lessons. I also like Twister's Hispanic heritage, Otto and Reggie losing their mother, and Sam having divorced parents. I enjoyed the slang and such it was all really fun and sometimes a tear-jerker. I think when people think it's funny to make fun of a certain eras slang like, 'how old are you?' 'We don't say "dynamite!" anymore' but that doesn't make it stupid. It's fun how language evolves especially with kids and I always liked hearing the slang this friend group made up and inside-jokes between them. Also, though I've never been a sports kinda girl, except I did play ice hockey as a kid and tried to skateboard (not well), but I never found the extreme sports in this show cringey or tempting to try, just seemed like California kids and city kids (which I was) are usually into sports. But I also liked that they showed other interests, Twister loved film-making and singing (also great at intricate sculpture design), Reggie loved writing and interviewing, Sam loved computers and game design. Otto's maybe the only one without outside interests from sports, though he does have a great work ethic for his sports and doesn't give up on something just because he's having trouble with it. You could maybe only see him pursuing sports professionally for the rest of his life, though the others could if they wanted to. I also like when Otto struggles with being afraid, being embarrassed, questions his morals, etc. Otto is super funny and he can be an asshole but typically gets called out on it, interesting when they show him straight up mis-remembering an event so that he looks like the good guy and the victim, definitely has narcissistic traits but can also tell his family and friendships do count when it comes down to them or fame. Only thing I didn't like was the whole weird fourth season. I don't like the new voice actors for Sam, or Twister, and I hate the story line with the new step-mom, both the meeting her and wedding movies. She was incredibly uncaring and ignorant of what step-parenting or any parenting looks like and Raymundo is worse than usual in ignoring his children's needs. I much preferred Breezy, she seemed to actually want to get to know the kids and showed actual concern for Reggie when they were having issues and went to her one-on-one. I too loved the Tony Hawk episode (I loved playing Tony Hawk Pro-Skater). I also loved episodes like Otto is afraid, Otto and Twister lost in a hurricane, Sam's video game, Reggie trying out for volleyball, the sandcastle competition, the secret hangout, and the secret beach. The New Zealand TV movie was amazing. Vegemite!

I appreciated how nuanced the show portrayed adults. There were episodes where adults were depicted as killjoys, whereas others showed that the rules are there for a reason, like when Raymundo pointed out that Otto accidentally hurt Mr. Stimpleton and never once apologized, Otto trying to take advantage of the fact that Conroy was his teacher, or Tito telling them that even if they didn't want to spend time with them, it was still not okay to run off without saying anything. One episode that stuck with me was when Otto wound up being Mr. Stimpleton's caddy because Stimpleton fixed his bike. In that episode, both of them learn from each other; Stimpleton learns to be more aggressive in his game and Otto learns to be more patient in his.

I could understand that surfers lifestyle this show was known for because I was a surfer. By no means a pro that could compete but I still loved the sport. Also being inside the curl has got to be the most adrenaline pumping experience I’ve ever experienced in my 33 years of life. Oh, I also tried extreme skateboarding because of this show. While I never got the hang of it I didn’t just outright quit. I actually put some effort into it. Once I finally accepted that I wasn’t a mad shredder on the half pipe I gave my gear to a kid who really took off with the sport. back when cartoons has purpose, quality, and the jokes werent forced. there was variety of characters and friendships were shown. the reason this doesnt happen today in cartoons; budget of voice actors kids don't really go outside anymore / dont socialize (verbally, in person, due to being on phones and texting)**** we had flip phones and some texting in those early 2000's and such; I get that. but still, people lived in the moment. paid attention to each other. they didnt have to take a photo for social media for everything. Twister had his video camera but that is literally for the hobby of being a pro at documenting sports and cool tricks and actually doing something with it. rocket power kids went outside. stayed active. around this time of watching this show, I did watch it even tho I was born in 1998. I watched a lot of tv as a kid, but I did still have a balance of going outside as well! but when nobody was outside to play (which again, balanced in our inside and outside days, id say), i watched cartoons! they say too much tv is bad, which it can be. but if you really look back, avoid the nostalgia, but we want to go back to those earlier times because we lived life like rocket power. we made connections with people. we hung out with friends. Shows dont do this anymore as often because culture changed to being more phone/text/digial media social. you dont usually have a lot of friends now. or if you do, you dont hang out altogether in a big group. and if you did, nobody really stayed interconnected and kept to the original friends (before the attempted mash up of your friend groups) the 90's were an individualism different from the individualism we have today. back then, you were an individual, experiencing with others. now, everybody keeps too much to themselves and worries about themselves (individual rather than the whole). sorry for this long rant. maybe it was a tangent, lost focus, etc, but either way, hope you read this far :)

This and Rugrats were my two favorite shows! I loved how laid back the characters were and of course the skatboard scenes. The Tony Hawk episode is one of my favs.

Wholesome video! You really hit the nail on the head, saying how the show captured the cutler at that time. My parents never understood why I loved Rocket Power so much as a kid and still now. It's a slice of my childhood in more ways than one! Thanks for the great video and have a Merry Christmas!

A fun story from when I was younger was that I actually won a Rocket Power Sweepstakes. It gave a bunch of sports gear and protection like helmets and safety pads and guards, and even a commemorative skateboard with a cool Graphic design. Honestly, the worst part was losing that skateboard when I moved in my teen years but it is because of Rocket Power I know how to skateboard and rollerblade. I'm gonna see if I have any really old pictures of it.

I remember a lot of episodes but most clearly the earthquake one when a big one hit the city and they had to stay at home for safety, I remember it because it was one of the first animated shows that talked about that topic and also in my country earthquakes are a common thing, so it was really nice seeing that covered in a Nick show

I really liked Rocket Power as a kid. It's an underrated Nicktoon classic. It also really reinforced my love of skating outside with friends back in the day and how a lot of kids like Tony Hawk (that episode with him was one of the best). Sure, it's a bit dated now and reflects a product of its Y2K era during the extreme sports craze, but it still feels like a cartoon that can resonate with people who like extreme sports. We came a long way from actually having the Olympics include skateboarding and surfing as official sports. Thus, giving them more mainstream attention, which is something!

Honestly this show had a great influence on my life. It inspired many cul-da-sac street hockey games, and well as me getting into rollerblading as a kid. Also Reggie’s zine inspired me to want to publish some work of my own some day( still working in that part)
