One interesting aspect is that the show not only takes elements from the comics but also takes elements from the 1986 and 2003 cartoons respectively for the 2012 series while also introducing new characters as well. Even it’s noticeable with Dr. Baxter in the 2012 series being similar to the 2003 iteration where he was also African-American but taking elements from the 80’s Baxter where he gets turned into a Mutant fly from the Mutagen. Even Renet, the Fugitoid and the Triceratons which originally were from the TMNT comics also were borrowed from the 2003 iterations.

Ah, the version that introduced me to the Turtles. I'll admit I haven't completed the show as of typing (having fallen off during the fourth season due to how long it aired, and the Sunday morning timeslot it had since 2014), but this version holds a special place in my heart. Despite not watching an episode of the 2003 series at the time, I loved how the show was serialized. Not to mention the stories got darker after each season, which I thought was super unique and felt like the series was growing up with its audience in real-time. I loved the voice cast, the animation holds up rather nicely, and I'm glad to have grown up with this and still enjoy it over a decade later; it's essentially a show made by fans, for fans. Without it, I probably wouldn't have kept a tab on the various iterations that followed.

I was introduced to TMNT through TMNT 2007. With a craving for more, I watched Turtles Forever, which introduced me to the 1987 & 2003 series. After binging both series and rewatching them over and over again for years, I one day saw an advertisement for the 2012 series (which hadn’t released yet). Both me and my friend (who also loves TMNT) were hyped and watched it all the way through. Right now, it’s my favorite series because it’s a bit of a combination of what I love about TMNT as a whole, and also added a new spin to it. I won’t lie, I was very antagonistic towards Rise of the TMNT when it was announced and started releasing, but after giving it a real chance I came to love it and now deeply regret judging it too soon. I’m enjoying what they’re doing with the new TMNT movie/show and hope it stays this level of quality. I also liked every live action movie (the original trilogy and the Michael Bay films) but admittedly didn’t enjoy the Next Mutation.

The 2012 Turtles are my favorite. The only thing that annoys me is that they spent the entire show on a Donnie-Casey-April love triangle and didn't really resolve it. I loved the characters and the world, but that subplot felt pretty pointless after all the time they spent on it.

This version was the first variant i ever saw, i loved it from day dot, karaii and shredder were handled well, i loved the way the villians were done, and i also loved the general progression and how it got more and more dark and gritty as time goes on, i didn't mind the final season as i saw it as more of a stand alone (it definitely shouldn't be a cannon ending though) Personally i see the ending of the series as being just after the end of the mainstream seasons. I tried to watch rise sfter it cane out but i never got into it, having grown up on the more grittier aspects of the 2012 show the goofiness wass too off putting for me.

The 2012 TMNT series is my favorite incarnation of the turtles because it blends the comedy with the horror elements of the franchise very well, 1 of the reasons why was that they actually killed off Shredder, Master Splinter, & the entire planet Earth, which is surprising given it was made by Nickelodeon.

This is the perfect mashup up of the IDW comics, the 1990 movie and the 80’s cartoon. It’s safe for kids but written with millennial adults in mind. I have a few nitpicks (like Donnie’s weird crush) but overall I think they nailed it. Tonally it feels like a mix of Airbender and Teen Titans. There’s some goody episodes but they also hit the emotional moments really hard.

This series was to TMNT as Lego Batman was to Batman. They people making it understood why people like TMNT. Was it dark and brooding? Yes. Was it light and fun hearted? Also yes. For me it hit all the right notes and when you saw Shredder hand the turtles their shells on the WOLF building that's when I knew this was a series I wanted more of.
@ToontownAndCpenguin22 минут бұрын
While Rise is my favorite iteration, I admire 2012 a lot. It can get dark... very dark. I mean with Karai's backstory & there's a certain thing we saw on screen twice that those poor turtles had to live through both times (can't say without major spoilers), yeah, it's dark. They also slip in some near Animaniacs level adult jokes like how the shell they got that one sub joke past the censors, I have no idea. It's such a great watch, even if the pacing can be bad at times & you can see the conflict in the writers room by some decisions made in the show but in a sense, the things that bring it down makes it almost more fun for me as someone who loves reading & writing TMNT fics. Just last night, I was up reading a iteration crossover chatfic where 2012 Donnie was placed into the isolation chamber after the others found out about his thing regarding April. This takes place with the majority of turtles being adults (MM/Tales are still teens) & the whole April thing is in the past for Donnie so he's trying to defend himself on the matter, claiming he's gotten over it. I loved reading this (clearly the author had a good time writing it & I'm amazed they pulled it off with how hectic their life is rn; if I could toss extra kudos their way, I would) & it goes off of a flaw the series had. That's an example on how issues in a show can elevate fanfiction. Yes, I do consider the writing behind Donnie's crush on April to be a flaw. While it is realistic (seriously, the guy spent the first 15 years of his life not interacting with society so I understand his behavior in the beginning), the fact he struggled to learn his lesson through the series & grow into a better person is what kills it for me. When I write TMNT fic, I tend to also age up the turtles a little because I like placing it post series & the 2012 turtles, definitely my favorite set to write for. Yes, Rise is my favorite iteration but I need a couple extra cups of coffee if I'm going to be consistently writing those turtles but 2012? Just something with their sibling dynamic & things they went through in that world makes them more interesting to write. I've got a few iteration crossovers myself & in one of the fics, I have a chapter where a good chunk of it is 2012 April chatting with 2003 Don. There's a point where April admits to when she reduced her Donnie down to a quantum smear & ended up having a little bit of a spat with Don who couldn't understand how what she did was possible. She stated it more on murdering Donnie so Don's thinking is that if Donnie is alive & well, how is it he got killed? It's when April went into further detail, he understood. The topic of the overall conversation was about being possessed by something that's making them do things they wouldn't normally since it was found out that Don actually remembers the time he was double mutated (he did tell his brothers he doesn't remember any of that but I think it's an interesting idea to explore if he lied to them about it so they wouldn't worry) & Don did confide in April on this which is why she opened up on the Za-Naron thing. I love having these insane traumatic experiences to toy around with & 2012 has quite a few of them.
