I am a 73-year old Vietnam War veteran. Sabaton is one of the few bands who understand soldiers and veterans and what they've been through (as best as they can without having experienced it personally) . Those of us who seen war know that it is not about glory and marching music; it is about death and destruction. Sometimes soldiers act with heroism in a glorious manner, but war itself is brutality and the worst that humanity has to offer. Although sometimes war is necessary, it should never be rushed towards. The ones who rush toward it are politicians who have never experienced it. Someone once said that there are no unwounded war veterans; some scars can be seen, but many more cannot be seen. Thank you Sabaton for telling our stories, and thank you for this great reaction!

This song is about a soldier during the 30 Years War between 1618 and 1648 that Sweden was involved in. We have now lived in peace for over 200 years, as the last war or conflict we had, was with our neighbour Norway. The Norwegians were not happy with their new ruler (Sweden) after the Peace of Kiel. Instead of bowing under the Swedish crown, the country declared itself independent. It was the starting point for Sweden's last war, the attack on Norway in 1814. Goosebumps in the beginning and also in the end part....

I was at this concert! It was truly the the most powerful concerts I ever attended. And as a Swedish veteran, this song is really powerful. I sang with tears in my eyes the whole time. The song tells a story about an important historical time for Sweden as a country, and for many of us, its extremely emotional! 💪🏻🇸🇪

I really appreciate that. Starting in a month or so, they will be in heavy rotation based upon recommendations from their fans. They are opening for Judas Priest in May and I have floor tickets for the show! I already know the entire catalog of Judas Priest as well as I know my own name, and I want to be able to go in and see Sabaton with the same kind of knowledge. Thank you very much for your comment!

Then you also have the Sabaton effect from when you feel pride for a nation that you don't even belong to when listening to one of their songs.

I have been to their own festival 5-6 times, ever since En Livstid I Krig got played live, 3 times i think, i somehow always got talking to people, from germany, lithuania and italy. Sang the song together in swedish, this song brings people from all over the world, they think of their own country when singing this song, even when doing it in swedish. Also, everytime i have heard this song (total 5 or 6 times now), Joakim (lead singer) only needs to do the 3 first words of this song to get the audience going, after that he can sit back, relax and not utter a single word. Sometimes he actually has a hard time trying to be louder than the audience. Damn i love this song live!

Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim said no one carries around a lighter anymore, but you all have phones right? So turn on your lights for this one. Then when the video started he continued totally wonderful, my friends let's sing together en livstid i krig. They had sold out the show so we were 10 766 metalheads in the arena and needless to say, it was one hell of a show that night.

These words of wisdom are rarely spoken nowadays. Thank you for your encouragement to make the world a better place. By masterpieces of three or four minutes long, Sabaton is giving us more history lessons then all history classes combined. I also recommend (no need to react to that) to listen to the English version of it. It perfectly describes the Thirty Years' War in a single song. Touching for a German - and for all my fellow central Europeans - as well.

"... it is the pride of kings which throws mankind into confusion. Holland, without a king. hath enjoyed more peace for this last century than any of the monarchical governments in Europe." Thomas Paine, Common Sense 1776. I love this quote, because Paine points out that we don't have to engage in wars. Joakim has mentioned that there are so many stories from wars that we don't need anymore. I like his idea, that there are still millions of war stories to tell, of brave people facing terrible situations. We don't need any more wars. Thanks for your great reaction!

What I hear from many who react to Sabaton's songs is that they get to learn history that they never got to do when they were in school. Those who talk nonsense about Sabaton, that they are going to beautify what war was like, and this is far from the truth. But it's all about how war has been horrible throughout the centuries. Of course some stories are about heroic efforts in war but basically how horrible it is and how many people die from madness that different countries' leaders have had through the centuries.

I was first introduced to this band by my teenage son and now I listen to it more than he does. 😂 I love their music and stories. I can't wait to go see them live in my state in May. If i were to suggest any other live videos, I would suggest The Red Baron in Berlin and Winged Hussars from Warsaw. Also 2 of my favorites are 82nd All the Way & To Hell and Back. Stories of 2 American heroes.

The title translates to "A Lifetime At/of War'". You don't need to understand the lyrics for this version to get to you, that crowd singing every word is all that is needed. 🤘🤘. Par even put his hands on his head in apparent disbelief. As others have mentioned, it is about the 30 years war (1618-1648). There are 2 sets of lyrics. The Swedish lyrics tell the story from an individual Swedish soldier's point of view. The English lyrics tell the story from a broader perspective. Don't remember what you listened to from them on the old channel. If you haven't seen them, check out any of the animated story videos: "Night Witches", "No Bullets Fly", "The Red baron", "Lady of the Dark", and "The First Soldier".

This is one of only two songs where the english and swedish lyrics differ. The other one being 1648 about the swedish ransacking of Prague. The swedish lyrics is from a swedish perspective, the english from the inhabitants in Prague's point of view

Maybe a song from their more fun side of the show next? It'll round out your idea of how their shows are. This is from the same tour : SABATON - The Red Baron (Live - The Great Tour - Berlin) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ7Uh6OpoNd_qbMsi=_wfC43iNQGsGXdIX I love that in their live shows, no matter how heavy or light the song they play "feels", all of the songs have places for audience to join in. They always wan't to make sure people enjoy the show/ evening and are joining in, instead of "just listening to them play". Something as "small" as Joakim always calling the fans during a show "my friends" could be a throwaway line, but it feels quite genuine when he says it. Also the amount of small kids they get is so wholesome, youll see anyone from 4-5 year old little girls to elderly war veterans at the shows. Joakim giving a little girl his sunglasses (he literally carries boxes of spares on tour and gives the ones he's wearing at the moment to a kid he sees) No music in this so you can just watch on your own 1min clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqHIqYWrj517rdUsi=kT5wWRRMWo0TFqQS

Wakan 2019 was a celebration of 20 years of Sabaton. They also brought back former members of the band to participate. The Wakan venue has two stages & Sabaton utilized them both for this event. I would recommend that, if you have the time, watch the whole concert (you can watch it on KZbin). It is amazing to see them all together. Not to mention that there were about 750,000+ people at the concert.
