It is a 7' medium heavy with a 2000 reel.

I use a baitcaster mostly. I practice with a spinning sometimes because a lot of people I take fishing only use spinning reels.

You put faith in what I was going to try with some budget gear I bought in 2021 . I paired a Kalex XR5 ,7'0 Medium Heavy rod that's 3/8 to 1oz , 8-14lb line rating. Lol I just threw on a 4000 Lews Mach 2 Spinning Reel on it. I found some power pro 65lb braided (15lb mono equivalent) for $6 on clearance at Walmart lol. Go big or go home 😂. Also got gifted some lunkerhunt Top Water trio for Christmas lol. A frog, spider and dragonfly lol. I'm ready 😂. Happy New Year

The reel wasn't grinding, the noise you hear is the braided line singing.

@@ivorykimble you’ll lose too many on hook sets with a spinning rod. Trust me I know but I understand I love drop shots and weightless baits but I’m throwing as much as I can on a baitcaster but I love my spinny whinnys

I live in Florida and casting reels are everywhere for punching and things like that, but I’m on the west coast where spinning is the norm and I grew up that way. I can use a baitcaster, but spinning to me is less headache and more fun. I have fished bass tournaments all over the state. And can literally do the same thing with spinning tackle. Granted I also build my own rods. Spinning reels have really advanced in recent years. 20 lbs of drag is more than enough for any bass. The gear ratios have even increased and inches per turn wins every time…. The rod is the hardest to figure out as spinning rods geared for bass fishing are designed for light line techniques. Building rods allows me to use a traditional “casting” blank and throw a spinning seat on it. 4k reel with 50 lb braid will do the same as a bait caster. Period. Again, before the “learn a bait caster” comments come, I can use a bait caster and happen to be pretty good with one. I just prefer spinning from my inshore roots. And not to mention much easier for my young son to have fun. I know it’s “taboo” in the bass fishing world to use a spinning rod with heavy line techniques, but I say go catch fish and have fun with whatever you have! Great video!!!
