100% agree. I am awful at frog fishing and have watched so many videos on how to fish a frog, but I feel like it typically starts with them trimming the legs, bending out the hooks, and then just throwing it out there without actually going through what they are trying to do in their casts, where they are targeting, etc. Thank you for this video!

In the nineties no one used braided for bass fishing. We added eyes to our rods to make them more stiff and 20lb mono. It wasn't as good as braided but it worked.
@holymackerel337 ай бұрын
I used to go out in the morning with my grandpa and "bop" frogs to fish with. We'd hook them up and then softly cast them out and let them swim until they get a fish. It was a lot of fun. I understand why you use braided line for frogs. The way you fish you need braided line.

Im surprised at the amount Of comments on social media about people not being able to get anything with a frog.... i have luck with them almost everywhere i go.... maybe im just lucky... i think the biggest mistake i see people make is 1) gear (wrong rod, line, reel etc.) and 2) the retrieve (not walking it or just throwing it out and reeling it in fast which doesnt look natural) btw your intro music has been stuck in my head For like the past two weeks lol great video i also enjoy catching pike soemtimes on them or pickerel ya they tear it up but man r they aggressive

The way I figured and did get a blowup with a frog was holding the rod to one side and moving the rod to the other side of me twitching it as i go til there was too much slack to keep moving it then reeling slack moving rod back and doing it again. Made the frog have some kind of natural swimming motion. Also probably buying heavier rod and reel for it but using a medium ugly stick with a spinning reel and 15 lb. braid. Had a fluorocarbon leader but I should probably nix that next time?

I'm only asking about this certain frog because I bought one last winter trying to figure out winter catfish but now I have it on hand if I ever wanna use it. What is your opinion on the lunker hunt lunker frog? It is a bigger one with legs coming off the body that move and make it look like it's swimming when you retrieve it. I think I bought it because it has a big profile and I thought, "What bass couldn't resist those moving legs......." I didn't hear you mention that one is why I'm asking.

Smallmouth bass will annihilate those spiders but they are pretty damn light so kind of hard to throw with normal setup. I have been getting my friend into fishing and he's been using my frog rod/reel and I have been throwing the spider on 20lb braid with my glass crankbait rod and it's been working surprisingly well. He's been going deeper into the pads with the frog and I have been painting the outside edges with the spider. Bluegill like to keep plucking at the legs though, but hey at least that's somewhat of a dinner bell for the bass?
