I’ve never understood people who have an issue with modding because I spent a lot of time on new leaf, and practically everyone I knew had a modded island. We’d use the island editor to put tree stumps and weeds in the water, add multiple rivers (since terraforming didn’t exist), create natural paths etc. it’s been a huge part of animal crossing culture for absolutely ages

I was FURIOUS when they got patched and its not like I would've been AS mad if Nintendo just got rid of it themselves but I was so pissed off cause that one guy was so AGAINST star trees and modding in general he made it his "job" or something to mass report islands ON STREAM that I'm sure Nintendo got wind of the star trees because of him. It wasn't ACNH either, he went after ppl in the Pokemon community for hacking and modding as well and any other game, idk what his problem was.

Okay but the cards were so insane bc it was basically meant to be like. Online only, limited to ONE PER CUSTOMER and it was BECAUSE of scalpers ruining gaming drops in the past for nintendo like this, and then the day came and target PUT THEM ON THE SALES FLOOR BEFORE THE ONLINE SALES WENT LIVE and let people buy as many as they wanted so people who were following the rules didn't get them and scalpers got ALMOST ALL OF THEM. I waited in the target app for 3 hours! Refreshing constantly for hours to get them the second it unlocked and then I checkout and it said they were sold out. I was at work. I had to refresh for hours until i learned how they screwed this up. I ended up buying fake ones because I wasn't gonna buy $10 cards for like $64+. I am personally victimized by target limited item scalpers.

I remember the Sanrio amiibo fiasco so vividly. I remember when the trailer for them dropped and everything. I was super excited because the releases date was actually my birthday! So me and my bestie woke up super early to try and get them. We even went to target cause we heard some stores actually had employees stock them on shelves by accident and people would be able to go in and buy them. Unfortunately we didn’t get them. I eventually did get my own pack but at the time I only wanted Marty and Chai on my island, so i asked my friend to make me their amiibos. (A whole other topic but you can buy blank NFC Cards/chips and make your own amiibos using a DS. That’s how Etsy sellers make amiibo coins)

I worked at Target (and still do) during the whole Sanrio fiasco and it was definitely a mess. People were coming in having fits over them and trying to find ways around the quantity limits, trying to make things fairer. Funny how because they just sit on a peg and nobody buys them. The novelty definitely wore off. Hopefully if they do do another similar thing for the next game that it's handled better to prevent that much chaos and frustration.

So the second time i was going go give him away i looked on nookazon for someone who had him in a wishlist and other villagers. I messaged this girl who wanted lolly and raymond. I told her i had her and she came over to surprise surprise get raymond during the peak of the online rampage it was causing. The Sanrio amiibos were even crazier knowing that they were added in new leaf’s welcome amiibo dlc…for Japan only. I don’t think they could move in proper, but you could get the items at least. Oh gosh... I worked for Target in the electronics department back when those Sanrio amiibo cards dropped. That day was a NIGHTMARE. The phone was constantly ringing from people asking if we had any cards left (no), asking why their order got cancelled (we ran out), asking when we would get more in (i don't know). And the people who actually came in to buy the cards, well, most of them were pretty nice, but that shift is the first time I got someone kicked out for yelling at me. Fun times, fun times. People were similarly wild when the series 1-5 cards came out, especially the 5s.

A few things: I feel like many of the players who started in new horizons don't really realize how prevalent hacking was within the community in earlier titles. Hacks for aesthetic reasons became especially popular in new leaf due to the increased level of customization that game gave. So, when new horizons came around, star trees and the like just seemed like the logical next step and didn't seem like a huge deal. It was suprising how much backlash they got. In regard to paths, most people in older games had very straight and narrow paths because there was no way to have parts of designs be transparent. Many paths were designed to look like they were made of bricks. Island themes were VERY much a thing in older games, particularly new leaf. People would name their towns and player characters after a certain theme (For example, I remember there was a chess themed town with the players being named King, Rook, Bishop, and Knight. My own town was themed after hot drinks like tea and coffee) and then decorate their towns according to that theme. Player houses would be decorated like a shop or school or whatever because we couldn't place things outside. I have very fond memories of stumbling across a town with a kingdom hearts theme in the dream suite and marvelling at how pretty it was.

Re: "What Raymond Meme Videos?" - There was a trend of going into trading servers, posting some variation of "Raymond in boxes" or "Giving out Raymond for free!" (despite not having him) and then filming your Discord DMs immediately piling up to the tens of of hundreds as people rushed to ask you for him, then uploading the result to KZbin. Usually there was added dramatic music for comedic effect. I saw at least two or three of these back in the day.

I know you probably will not see this but your channel gives me so much nostalgia. I've been watching your videos for a while, but I stopped watching for a long time and I decided to look up your channel again today, just to see what you've been doing on your channel. I started scrolling through your past videos, realizing how much time has passed since I found this channel. Sure, I know that you still make videos, and I definitely still enjoy your content after about 2 years but at the time, it felt like you were my role model. I actually was a bit funny, thinking you were this sort of goddess. I really looked up to you. I remember getting home from school on Mondays and watching your live streams, but our time zones are different so I would come in too late and have to watch back. Your videos make me feel younger but it's never going to be the same as when I was just this innocent person, not knowing I was making memories that I would now look back on and feel sappy about. Nostalgia is such a weird feeling.
