I’ve been using my skateboard to film with for over 10 years, and I decided to upgrade my wheels to BONES Rough Riders for a smoother ride. This is a great way to get smooth B-Roll footage without having to use a Gimbal or Steadycam stabilizer. It does require skill to know how to skateboard properly. I also flew the Mavic Air while testing the wheels out!

If you skateboard, these BONES Rough Rider wheels are a must!! Seriously these are the perfect in between wheels for cruising to the Beer store without having to look whack on a long board. I highly recommend them. They can help you get some smooth "cinematic" shots too 😉

If you get hard wheels, they need to be above 56mm, from a good brand, and long spinning bearings so your wheels wont slow down from those nanoseconds of weightlessness from bumps in the ground. Most guys in 52s seem slow as when they ride, except this one freak of nature at the park who does impossibles ar high speed on true bearing condoms. Hope that wasnt too long

Dude. Try some soft wheels just for the hell of it for cruising. It is a vast improvement for rough asphalt. I was riding 101A Mini Logos, and then 103A Bones STF. Then, I switched to 90A Mini Logos. What a difference. I don't know about 80A yet. I have some Mini Logo AWOL 55mm on order. I am hoping they are better still than the 90As that I'm currently riding. Don't expect to be doing power slides, but, aside from that, it is rad having such a smooth ride and being able to rider over cracks easier. Of could you want to up your wheel size also.

You might want to checkout Mini Logo A-Cut 90A wheels as well. I think they would probably work better for flip tricks, etc. More of a standard wheel shape. I think they are about 30mm wide, versus 40mm for these. Mini Logo has 95A as well. I've used the 90As and it was a dramatic improvement for riding on asphalt compared to the 103A Bones STFs that I was riding previously. Not good for slides though.

Nice vid! The everlasting dilemma between comfortable soft wheels and fun hard wheels. I guess in the end it's the best not to try to find the best of both worlds. But just have one board for comfort and one for fun/reverts etc. This wheels do look nice and light enough to comfortably ollie and kickflip on though. So that's a big upside against my current commuter (85mm Seismic Speedvent 75A wheels)

Apparently a lot of people are reporting their wheels are falling apart in chunks. I can confirm mine are still going strong after 2.5 years. There must be a bad batch of them out there

Question to all viewers. I look at amazon reviews of this wheel, and every user added picture is of the wheel with chunks missing. They say after 2-3 weeks (or even 10 minutes) the wheels start to break if you do ANY ollies, shuv its, ect. Would anyone know of a wheel that is soft, and quiet like this wheel, but does not fall apart and can handle ollies and such?

I live in Buffalo. So same streets pretty much. I have a fat old school creature deck with bones soft slides 66 mm. They're 75a on the durometer. Softest wheels I've seen. Softest than my cruiser boards. Other cruiser boards. Necessity

I was never a fan of gimbals, especially when they first came out into the general public, when every regular Joe started to have one for their phone. Eventually, I had to conform and get one, but I'm from the old school. When I went to film school, we trained with steadicams-and of course, I had the good idea to do handheld while on a platform with wheels, too. I mean, that really is what filmmaking is about; that is where you put in your creativity. You've got to work hard and come up with solutions to realize the images in your head. It's not supposed to be as easy as a gimbal. And from my experience in school and in the industry the past decade alone, I can tell you that gimbals have almost singlehandedly destroyed the art and the craft-the cinema. When you have one little gadget like that that can provide video stabilization and every type of shot and movement (at least, as advertised), you don't know how much you're limiting yourself. Because you limit yourself only to the capabilities of the gimbal, and then you get lost in its buttons and gizmos and the "coolness" of it, that every shot you take drives you further and further away from the ones that you're supposed to have. When you toy with something that is advertised as having limitless capability and application, you lose all the possibilities you drew (or could have drawn) in your head. And then you just end up with a video in which every shot is an establishing shot-you never get to where you're supposed to go. There are professionals who use them today and that have learned to really adapt them to the work, and that's fine, but that's still a very niche corner. Someone else has to be able to think somewhere, that if a large part of the population of the common man has a thing like that, and you see those "gimbal shots" everywhere, cinema cannot exist (in the way that it did). What is cinema now, anyway? No one knows. Is it a commercial or a home video? Anyway, didn't mean for this to be a rant. I'm selling my gimbal, who's interested in a first generation Zhiyun Crane? I'll give it to you for free. P.S. Since when did "starving artist" become "starving creator"? What is that? Oh, no, we really have lost something. I say everyone's so deprived but no one is starving. P.P.S. Same thing goes to drones, too. What, helicopter rides aren't a "cool" experience anymore? Gods bless you, "literally" generation.

Keep a file on hand. Try using a new different nut for beat up, stripped trucks. I think your playing dumb for the audience but then you actually went out like that. This is stuff every skater figures out.
@MarkWadsworthYPP

It's always the last nut. I've tried doing the last one first and the third one last. But the bolts know that trick. They know. So then the third one won't go on.

If your nuts won't go on any more, you need a file to repair the axle thread start. I add washers (1 per side usually) on the axles inner sides of the wheels until the nuts are almost flat to the axle. This way the nuts wear down quicker, but the thread starts are protected.
