How about the 80s twilight zone
@twofacetoo75Ай бұрын
It'd be interesting to see him look at the best / worst / both of the various 'Twilight Zone' imitations, like 'Outer Limits', 'Night Gallery', 'Goosebumps', 'The Ray Bradbury Theater', etc To clarify before I even post this, because I know people are going to say it: I'm not saying any of these shows were bad or cheap knock-offs, 'Night Gallery' itself was even made by the same person, Rod Serling. But the fact remains, 'Twilight Zone' was the one that lead the way forwards, codifying the style of an anthology show with fantasy and sci-fi elements, and these numerous other shows were simply following in it's wake. The fact is: they were imitating it. A lot of them wouldn't exist had 'Twilight Zone' not led the way.

Wally Cox was Underdog's voice, too. And a Hollywood Squares regular. I really enjoyed his comedic persona as a kid.
@Kmac005Ай бұрын
Wally Cox' performance is pretty much Wally Cox. Audiences were very familiar with Wally's character from the Mr. Peepers show that aired a few years earlier. So, I think that audiences back then would've been more familiar and arguably more tolerant of his performance in this episode. That's not to say the episode is any good, but that Cox was an actor who played slight variations of his well-established character, much like Don Knotts or Jack Benny.
@daveroche6522Ай бұрын
Wally was in a corker of a movie with Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier (both close friends in real life) - "The Bedford Incident" - a first-class cold-war movie. WELL WORTH WATCHING! Spoiler alert - it AIN'T a 'comedy'.
@Kmac005Ай бұрын
@@daveroche6522 Sadly, Wally passed away at a relatively young age, so he is virtually unknown to most people under the age of 45. I thought his best film performance was in a movie that was never released "Something's Got to Give" with Marilyn Monroe. He looks so happy to be with her it's hysterical. In the early 1970s, he became a regular on "Hollywood Squares". A game show that really helped Paul Lynde become identifiable to younger audiences today. The same might've been true for Wally if he had made it to the early 1980s like Paul.

These TZ episodes made to inspire a spin-off or new series remind me of Elmyra from Tiny Toons. I recall a couple of Tiny Toons episodes about Elmyra and her family with the goal of giving her a spinoff show. They weren't really good, then Elmyra appeared in an Animaniacs episode and eventually got her own show with Pinky & The Brain. In the Superman movie he directed from 1978, the child actor who played Superman as a three-year-old boy crawled out of the space ship naked and we the audience see everything of the boy body. Here the thing, yes the boy was told he would have to be naked for the scene and still accept the role, but on the day of filming, the boy got cold feet about being naked on screen and didn’t want to do the role anymore and so what does Donner do?
